Obuasi Ashgold walked off the medal presentation ceremony during their super clash defeat to fellow premier league side, Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 2014/15 Ghana premier league champions felt aggrieved with some of referee David Laryea’s and felt they were cheated with some decisions.
The miners boycotted the medal ceremony and their act has aggrieved football fans who believe the club’s decision to act in that manner only dents the poor image and little reputation the Ghana premier league is struggling to retain.
Communications director of Obuasi Ashgold, Kofi Yawson in a defensive reaction has explained why the club took that decision.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi based Boss fm, Kofi said, “We never said we won’t accept the medal we only registered our dissatisfaction towards the organisers as the medals were fewer than the total number of players and officials we registered for the game.”
“The organisers informed us of only 18-medals instead of the 25_medals we were expecting and so of what essence is it if one climbs the ladder and receives no medal and combined with our disappointment with officiating we were not in the mood to negotiate, he added.
Ashgold will play against Algerian side, MO Bejaia in their CAF Champions League preliminary round at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday 14th February.
