Hearts of Oak former head coach, Sergio Traguil has said the club’s decision to demote him to the youth team is unfair.

The Phobians, yesterday released a press statement stating that the Portuguese has been re-assigned to his position of managing the U20 side of the club, just as was initially agreed before the club hit a snag agreeing a solution with Kenichi Yatsuashi – who was embarking a 25-day coaching refresher course in his native Japan.

Traguil has failed to impress the management of the club since he was confirmed as interim coach with his record, detailing three wins, seven draws and two heavy defeats.

Speaking for the first time since the news broke of his demotion, the tough-talking tactician said; “If the management had made a fair analysis on my team’s performance they will notice I have been treated unfairly.

“They have to make fair analysis and not comparison on this or that as you cannot compare the work of two coaches because it is not the same [as in work]. It is that simple, they [Hearts management] have not been fair to me, most them, I mean,” he added.

Hearts has named assistant coach, Yaw Preko as interim head coach for the remaining three games to the climax of the 2015/16 season.

Hearts of Oak head coach, Sergio Traguil, has attributed his side’s dropped points at home against Techiman City to complacency.

Cosmos Dauda scored his ninth goal from the penalty spot to give the Phobians the lead but, was quickly cancelled out by a powerful low shot from City defender, Vincent Adu.

And Traguil, who the aggrieved fans attacked verbally, admitted his frustration at the results and called on his boys to pick themselves up and get ready for the home run.

“We had a good game in the first half and the second wasn’t a good one,” he told the media at his post-match presser.

“But we lost concentration and we got punished. We will work on that and ensure we don’t get complacent again in the remaining games.”

Hearts have a herculean task at hand when they face Wa All Stars on Wednesday at the Wa Park.

Hearts of Oak head coach, Sergio Traguil has heaped praises on the supporters of Hearts for the love shown the club since he took office.

 

The fans didn’t let the team down as they travelled from far and wide to support during their week 21 clash against arch rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

 

The game ended in a stalemate but it was the Phobians who cheered the loudest as they maintained their 100 percent away record of no defeat and kept their 5-point lead at the top of the league table.

 

Traguil, in an interview, said; “I have to say that I have never seen so much love and support [like I witnessed on Sunday against Kotoko from Hearts fans].

 

“I saw it in Hasaacas but what I saw in Kumasi was something else – something from another world. I think the Phobians are the best supporters in the world.

 

“I saw Benfica and I was part of them. I was thinking that Benfica have the best supporters in the world but I will have to review that. Now, I am sure that Phobians are the best supporters in the World. Thank you for that support”, he added.

 

Hearts fans climaxed their support on the match day by escorting the team’s bus out of the stadium through to the outskirts of the Garden City, Kumasi.

We Need To Maintain Our Spot - Musah

Hearts’ stalwart defender, Inusah Musah has called on his teammates to help cement their top spot position in the Ghana Premier League, going into their match week 20 clash against Berekum Chelsea.

 

Hearts recorded their first win under new head coach, Sergio Traguil, courtesy a slim 1-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas to move top of the league table, after chasing pack, Wa All Stars and fierce rivals, Kotoko, lost and drew in their respective games.

And 25-year-old Musah, who has been a rock in defence for the Phobians since his return from a long injury, has sent a rallying call to his colleagues to maintain their top spot in order to clinch the title this season – the first since 2008.

“For now, we are top of the table and I pray we maintain our position there,” he said.

“There are more matches to go but we have to make sure we pick our points so to maintain our position and possibly win the title.

“So, I am calling on the fans to support us in our remaining games.”

I’ve  been observing Ghanaian clubs for quite a while and it amazes me how far we, as a nation, are archaic in terms of football when the topic for discussion is on branding.

Let me just zoom into the top flight of Ghana football just as the proverbial adage reads; “leadership by example”.

Not many of the 16 premier league clubs can boast of well-branded sportswear (kit sponsor). As expected, Hearts and Kotoko’s Mafro deal leads when one has to mention, but it baffles me how these “big” clubs fail to fulfil their contractual agreement.

As a journalist, my critical observation(s), just like others’, are crucial as we all clamour to uplift the poor, if not declining, image of our league.

Mafro, perhaps will not mind, but it is just unpardonable to see Hearts of Oak train in different sports kits than their official wear.

Acting and newly appointed head coach, Sergio Traguil, like his predecessor, trains the team kitted in Adidas whilst some players wear Puma (national team kit), Joma, just to name a few.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko also train in an Adidas imitated two-stripped kit contrary to they appearing in Mafro wears.

But it is not right as it affects the needed mileage Mafro aims to enjoy from its sponsorship.

To think of it, is it that they (Mafro) have also realised hence their offer of the ridiculous deal to both Hearts and Kotoko?

It just begs the question; is Ghanaian clubs’ inability to appreciate branding as a subject the main reason if not one (of the many reasons) why the League has no headline sponsor?

Hearts Appoint Portuguese As Head Coach

Accra Hearts of Oak has confirmed the appointment of Portuguese trainer, Sergio Traguil as the youth team coach.

 

The Portuguese trainer is expected to arrive in Ghana on Friday in the company of his able assistants .

 

The move by the Phobians is a move to revamp their famous Auroras Side (youth side) Traguil that used to produce some good talents for the Accra based club.

Traguil will handle the Auroras which is the U20 side as well as the Royals Oaks (Under-17).

Media reports yesterday rumoured the Portuguese will replace beleaguered head coach, Kenichi Yatshusashi whose post has come under heavy scrutiny from the board and management after an impressive start to life in the Ghana Premier League.

The Portuguese will officially be unveiled at the Club secretariat next week.

Under-fire Accra Hearts of Oak coach, Kenichi Yatsuashi has told Sportscrusader.com that it has been a bitter-sweet debut season in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for him.

The Japanese-American started life to Ghana football on a high note with no defeats in his first five games in the GPL a hiss side accrued 13-points from a possible 15.

And this changed the views of many fans and critics alike who had questioned the appointment of the spiky-haired tactician who was unknown to Ghana football before his arrival in the country.

Coach Kenichi said “It has been great how quick the fans had warmed up to me and that has been memorable though it could have been better” taking into consideration where the team finished (fourth) at the end of the first half of the season.  

“It has been an amazing and memorable first half of the season and not forgetting (the season) has brought a lot of good times. But football administration has to be a little better than it is now in terms of the pitches and as we witness in parts of Europe the playing surface allows them to play at a higher tempo and allows tactics to be displayed better,” he said.

“My team started well as you know and we ended the season (first half) unbeaten in terms of away matches but it was the home form that cost us, however, we are ready to correct all the wrongs and hopefully lay hands on the trophy for the fans,” he added.  

Coach Keni as he is affectionately called was rumoured to have been sacked from his post but he still remains at the helm and is raring to go when the second half commences.

Kenichi Worried About Hearts Inconsistent Form

Accra Hearts of Oak coach, Kenichi Yatsuashi has expressed worry over his sides inconsistent league form.

Hearts have been the best performing away team in the 2015/16 Ghana premier league season with no defeat to their name  – four wins and three draws. But it is the home form that has got the spiky-haired Japanese-American tactician worried.

And in his post match interview after Hearts ended the first round of the league with a 1-1 result against Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu.

“we want to go back to the top as we tried our best to win the game (against Dreams FC) but we couldn’t as our opponents played very well and shared the same objective with us (win the game).”

“I am not worried about slipping from the top spot but my only worry is how we can sustain our best performance. Our first half showing was poor but we improved in the second half and that is my worry (why we can’t perform well throughout the whole game),” he added.

The league will resume after three weeks to commence the final part of what has been an interesting round of matches.

Match Reports: Hearts Lose At Home Again

Liberty Professionals inflicted upon Hearts of Oak their third defeat at home and of the season as a 17th minute strike from Issah Mohammed Shaibu was the only goal of the game.

 

The Dansoman based side dominated the game from the blast of referee George Lamptey’s whistle as they stringed their beautiful passes together and bossed their host through the entire duration of the game.

 

In the 17th minute, Liberty with their possessive style of play stringed together three passes and a quick one-two pass between Ebo Mends and Latif Blessing saw the former lay a through pass laid to Issah Mohammed Shaibu who was left in on goal alone and he brilliantly hit a powerful shot pass the on rushing goalkeeper, Samuel Akrugu.

 

Hearts after conceding appeared to have been angered as they piled up the pressure in the quest to find the equaliser and enjoyed their best spell of the game for 15-minutes. Chief  tormentor of Liberty, Latif Blessing lived up to the hype prior to the game as he stretched apart Hearts centre back pairing of Vincent Atinga and Robin Gnagne who had a difficult time containing the diminutive attacking midfielder.

 

Liberty’s midfield pair of Gerald Arkson and Ebo Mends controlled affairs as Mustapha Essuman had a day to forget in the office.

 

There were pocket of chances for the Phobians who knew a win or draw will see them regain top spot from Wa All Stars but huffed and puffed but could not find the equaliser as the result meant Kenichi’s side are poor at home.

Hearts, Aduana Stars Lead Five Clubs Chase for Saddick Adams

Berekum Chelsea bank roller and owner, Nana Kwame Nketsiah has disclosed five Ghana Premier League clubs have expressed interest in securing the services of their star man, Saddick Adams.

The former Black Satellites forward has been a fresh breathe of air for the domestic game and has been in superb form since he rejoined the GPL after unsuccessful stints with Atletico Madrid in Spain followed by several other stints across the globe.

Nana Nketsiah speaking in a radio interview with Kumasi based Boss FM said, “there are seven clubs interested in securing the services of the Adams – Medeama SC want to sign him to boost their CAF Confederation Cup participation while Aduana Stars, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak require his service to help them win the league whereas Dreams FC want to add firepower to their attack in their debut season.”

“None of the clubs has returned after we disclosed the transfer amount for Adams so we are still waiting if they (suitors) don’t return then I can confirm Saddick will join a foreign club when the transfer window is opened in June,” he added.

Hearts and Aduana Stars are named as front runners to lure the player.

Hearts Can Win The Premier League - Appiah

Former Ghana Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah has tipped his former side, Hearts of Oak to annex the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League crown.

Hearts begun the 2015/16 league start in style; their best since they won the 2008/09 crown.

The Phobians are yet to lose away from home and this has seen them being tagged favourites to win the trophy after starting the season as outside favourites.

Appiah who started his glamorous career with the Rainbow club, said, the current players under the tutelage of head coach, Kenichi Yatsuhashi are well improved compared to last season.

“I have noticed the team boasts of unity, teamwork, energy and aggressiveness in their style of play and that is why they are top of the league and if only they can maintain this form I see them win the trophy,” he told Accra based station, Radio Gold.

He added; “They have a fantastic coach (Kenichi Yatsuhashi) who is helping the players improve in terms of their stamina and their fitness as it is always evident in games (during the 60th minute mark).”

Learn From Stadium Ban - Akanbi Warn Hearts Fans

Accra Hearts of Oak Board member, Alhaji Braimah Akanbi has cautioned the clubs fans to learn from their stadium ban.

The 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) leader’s were hit with a fans ban by the Disciplinary Committee (DC) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after water bottles and other missiles were thrown onto the field of play during their 1-3 home defeat to Wa All Stars.

Mr Akanbi who was present during the unpleasant scene, has therefore called on fans to learn from the mistake and the heavy punishment imposed on the team and not repeat the act anymore.

“Players have nothing to do with this but rather the supporters but the punishment has been meted out onto the club and thus we have got to learn from this. Football is changing, football is a big business and people are investing into it,” he said.

“These investors won’t like to be associated with such violence and it is high time club supporters learn and be educated on hooliganism and the negative effect it has on all affiliated with football,” he added.

Hearts played their first game of a two match ban on Wednesday when they defeated Sekondi Hasaacas by a lone goal to stay top of the GPL table after 12 games.

GPL Match Week 12 Review: Hearts, Kotoko Win as Ashgold Dropped Points

Hearts of Oak have stretched their lead at the top of the league table with 2 points after their hard fought 1-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas in the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League week 12 fixture.

The game which was played in an empty stadium following the 2-match ban on the Hearts of Oak supporters saw the game commence on a frantic note with Hasaacas dictating the pace in the opening two minutes.

It was early pressure, but the Phobians managed to weather the storm and took control of the game with the likes of Isaac Mensah, Foovi Aguidi and Cosmos Dauda giving the Hasaacas defenders a lot to think about.

Even without the support of their fans most of whom were outside hoping to get inside the stadium, the Phobians grew in confidence and managed to get the first goal as early as the 5th minute and it was from the foot of youngster Isaac Mensah.

The early goal did little break the visitor resolve who continued to pile more pressure on the Phobians, but their forward men made up of Eric Bekoe, Samuel Afful and Richmond Opoku blew all the chance they managed to create.

A moment of controversy in the 78th minute saw Sekondi Hasaacas’ goal after an indirect free kick disallowed by the match officials, signalling that the ball did not touch any player before entering the net.

Indeed Hearts of Oak had their chances too but they woeful in front of goal fluffed chances at will as the game ended 1-0 in their favour.

The Phobians still occupy the top of the league table with 24 points from 12 matches, whilst Hasaacas now occupy the 13th position with 13 points.

In other matches, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi’s goal was enough to see Asante Kotoko pick all three points away to Bechem United.

Aduana Stars continued their impressive run under new coach with an another away win over New Edubiase at the at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium. Defender Godfred Saka scored the only goal of the match.

Elsewhere at the Tema Park, Inter Allies drew 1-1 with defending league champions Frederick Boateng scored for Inter Allies and Dauda Mohammed got the goal for AshGold.

At the Wa Park WAFA held Wa All Stars to a hard fought 1-1 draw with goals coming from Emmanuel Ocran for All Stars and Komlana Agbegneidan for WAFA.

The match involving Dream FC and Liberty Professionals saw the highest number of goals (four) with both sides sharing the spoils. Lawson Bekui scored all two goals for Dreams with Bernard Arthur & Latif Blessing scoring for Liberty.

Ebusua Dwarfs and Berekum Chelsea played out a goalless drawn game at the Robert Mensah park.

GPL Match-Day 12 Preview: Hearts v Hasaacas

Accra Hearts of Oak will host Sekondi Hasaacas at the Accra Sports Stadium in a Match-Day 12 action of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Team News:

Samudeen Ibrahim, Musah Inusah, Thomas Abbey, Richard Yamoah, and Owusu Bempah have all returned to training with the first two very likely to be in contention against Hasaacas.

Musah Ibrahim and Sabahn Laryea have both returned from international duty with the local Black Stars and Eric Kumi is back to the team after family bereavement.

Soulama Abdoulaye is serving the final game of his suspension but Isaac Oduro remains sidelined.

Accra Hearts of Oak will seek to maintain their leadership of the GPL when they host Sekondi Hasaacas at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

The Phobians returned to the top of the table after beating Berekum Chelsea by a lone goal at the Berekum Golden City Park in their last encounter, a result that brought to an end Chelsea’s four years unbeaten home record.

Samuel Yeboah was back among the goals and his lone strike gained Hearts a first ever win at the home of Berekum Chelsea. It also helped the team to recover quickly from the painful defeat against Kotoko in their last home game.

Impressively, the win over Chelsea ensured that Hearts ascended to the top of the Premier League pile for the first time in five match-days.

Hearts have been boosted by the return to training of five hitherto injured players. Samudeen Ibrahim, Musah Inusah, Richard Yamoah, Thomas Abbey, and Owusu Bempah, and, some could be included in the squad for the game by Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

Sekondi Hasaacas are yet to pick a point on the road in the 2016 GPL season. The Hasmal boys have lost in Wa (All Stars 3-0), Sogakope (WAFA 5-0), Kumasi (Kotoko 1-0), Dormaa (Aduana 4-0), and Dawu (Dreams 2-1). But they will be buoyed by their recent success against Hearts from the last four games where they have won 50% of the encounters.

Last season, Hasaacas shocked Hearts at the Accra Sports Stadium with a maiden win in the 21^st century at the home of the Phobians. They shot into a two-goal lead under the half-hour mark before Hearts woke up to get a consolation through Philip Boampong.

Hearts have not been able to match their impressive away form at home so far in the campaign. The Phobians have lost twice, drawn once, and won two times from five home games in the season so far.

But having moved back to the top of the table, the confidence level of the players will be high and they will fight to return to winning ways at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Richard Yamoah Hoping To Return Stronger For Hearts

Richard Yamoah has vowed to return to the field stronger than ever for Accra Hearts of Oak as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

The former Sekondi Hasaacas midfielder has not featured for the Phobians since the team’s win over Medeama SC in Tarkwa in Match-Day Two action of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) at the Tarkwa T&A Park.

Yamoah has since missed nine games which included famous victories over Inter Allies (Tema), AshantiGold (Obuasi) and Berekum Chelsea (Berekum), wins which has boosted Hearts’ record as the top the GPL table after 11 games.

Some soccer fans have questioned whether Yamoah still has a prominent role to play at Hearts but the midfielder says he is determined to show he can still be a key contributor to Hearts’ title chase.

“I promise to return stronger than ever. It has been a very difficult time for me mentally sitting on the touchline and monitoring my teammates at training and in the games. I always want to help the team as a player. It is the worst thing possible when you are forced to watch on from the sidelines,” he told the club’s official newspaper, the Hearts News.

Meanwhile the Hearts technical team says they will not take any unnecessary risks with all injured players who are making their return.

Yamoah will therefore have to bid his time and regain full fitness to stand in with a chance of being included in Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s plans for the rest of the season.

Owusu Bempah Back In Hearts Training

Accra Hearts of Oak defender and deputy captain, Owusu Bempah is back in training after sitting out their last Ghana Premier League (GPL) game against Berekum Chelsea.

Bempah did not last the entire duration of Hearts‘ game against Kumasi Asante Kotoko played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Match-Day 10, and, was replaced early in the first half by Kennedy Appiah after he picked up an ankle injury.

The defender was on a short injury absence with a fractured ankle, but resumed training last Friday.

Initially it was feared the defender would miss the rest of the first round of the 2016 GPL campaign, but it now remains to be seen if he will play a part in Coach Keni’s team in the remaining four matches before the first round ends.

It is not likely though that Bempah could be back to action on Wednesday against Hasaacas as the game may come too early for him in terms of fitness.

However, it marks further good news for Hearts, who announced that many more of their injured players have returned to training.

Hearts Set To Complete Signing of Ex U20 Star

Accra Hearts of Oak are on the verge of completing the signing of Former U20 World Cup winner, Kassenu Ghandi.

 

The Phobians who occupy top spot of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) are looking to bolster the squad as Coach Kenichi Yatsuashi looks make history winning Hearts the league trophy that has eluded them since 2008.

 

The ex Liberty Professionals defender cum midfielder has been training with the Accra based side for a couple of weeks now and is the second name next to Medeama SC, Malik Akowuah, on a list of potential transfer deals the Phobians want to seal in the second transfer window.

 

Kassenu was a member of the Black Satelites side that won the 2009 World Youth Championship in Egypt. He has had stints with BK Hacken of Sweden as well as Al Merreikh of Sudan.

 

The second transfer window is set to close on the 1st of June after opening on the 2nd of May.

Hearts Storm Akwuapem Larteh On Sunday

Ghana Premier League (GPL) leaders Accra Hearts of Oak, will storm Akwuapem Larteh on Sunday to play local side Storm Stars Academy in a friendly encounter.

The game will be played at the Methodist School Park, and, is at the instance of the third tier side who wants to test their mettle against the premiership campaigners.

There are no GPL games this weekend as MTN FA Cup matches takes center stage on the Ghanaian football calendar with the Phobians having been knocked out in the previous round.

Storm Stars Academy are gearing up for the start of the Eastern regional second division league, and, have been engaging in a series of friendly games to put them in shape for the start of the competition.

They hope to give the GPL leaders a good run for their money on Sunday, and, on home soil, will be inspired to put on a show.

The Phobians will also use this game as final preparation for the resumption of the GPL as they hope to maintain their leadership of the log.

The dread-locked midfielder, who was part of the Medeama’s maiden campaign in Africa in 2013 and is currently marshaling them in their attempt to reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup this year , and, has been under the careful watch of the Phobians for a long time.
