We Will Go To Ghana And Look For A Positive Result – Senegal Coach

Head Coach of the Senegalese U-20 side, Joseph Koto has said his team will look for a positive result in Ghana as they seek to qualify to the African Youth Championships (AYC) in Zambia next year.

They hold a 3-1 lead from the first leg final qualifying round at the expense of the Ghanaians after winning that encounter on home soil last Saturday.

The return fixture is expected to come off in Ghana on the weekend of July 22-24 at the newly built Cape Coast Stadium, and, Coach Koto insists his side will approach it with a strong mentality.

On the first leg win, he said; “It’s a good result but nothing is done in the direction of qualification. We will start the second leg as if it was 0-0 in the first leg.”

“It is a welcome serenity for what the players showed throughout the game. They did not panic despite the quality of the opponent known for its strength in youth football”, the former Senegal international said.

He added: “We will go to Ghana and look for a positive result. With the team we have, we fear no one.”

Ghana will need to win the return encounter by two clear goals to book a ticket to the AYC in Zambia next year where the best four teams will qualify to the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2017 in South Korea.

Sanford Agrees 4-year Sponsorship Deal for Women"s FA Cup

Sanford World Clinic, a health care organization has signed a four-year agreement worth GH¢1.1million with the Ghana Football Association to sponsor the Women’s FA Cup competition.

The Women’s FA Cup competition which was recently introduced into the Ghanaian football calendar is currently in the round of 16 stage and teams will receive some relieve after the announcement of this deal.

At a press conference held on Tuesday to announce the deal, Dr. Kojo Benjamin Taylor, President for Sanford World Clinic, revealed that their decision to partner the GFA and to support women’s football in particular means more to them than just being a fulfillment of their social responsibility.

According to him, 70 percent of the patients and visitors to their health facility are women so they deem it as an obligation to help develop women football and invest in the lives of girls who are playing football.

“I have seen a women’s football match and its quite motivating. The first time I saw them play I was amazed at the display of talent shown by the young girls. I must admit I didn’t expect that”, Mr. Taylor said at the press conference held at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.

GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi who signed the agreement on behalf of the Association, thanked Sanford World Clinic for expressing interest to help the GFA develop the talents of the young girls.

He described the sponsorship agreement as a historic one since it’s the first time awomen’s football competition is getting sponsorship in Ghana.

“Its my hope that this will go a long way to ameliorate the burden on those who manage women football clubs so that they can continue to develop women football in the country”

“Ghana has a huge potential in women’s football. The Black Queens were the first to qualify to the world cup seven years before the men achieved the same feat.

The Black Maidens were the first African female U-17 team to win bronze at the World Cup so if we pay more attention to it they will continue to bring honour to our country”, the GFA Boss added.

A cheque worth GH¢200,000 was handed to the GFA, being the first tranche of the sponsorship package with another two tranches to be paid within the next four years.

Kenyan Football Association Slapped With A Hefty CAF Fine

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped Kenya with Sh1 million ($10,000) fine after fans caused chaos at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations return leg qualifier match against Guinea Bissau at the Nyayo National Stadium on March 27.

In the decision released Monday after the CAF Disciplinary Board held a meeting on April 18 in Johannesburg, South Africa, the African football governing body also warned Kenya that if such incidences recur, the team may play on a neutral ground or behind closed doors.

The Disciplinary Board charged Kenya’s Harambee Stars with three offences after players contested the referee’s decisions, supporters throwing stones and police using tear gas to disperse the crowd.

“In case a similar incident occurs, team may play on neutral ground or without spectators or at a different stadium,” The Board warned.

Guinea Bissau were served with a warning letter ordering them to respect rules and reinforce security after ball boys invaded the pitch in the first-leg where Kenya suffered a 1-0 defeat.

On March 27, Zimbabwean referee Norman Matemera was forced to stop the second leg for over half an hour after crowd trouble erupted in a match where Harambee Stars went on to lose 1-0 to visitors Guinea Bissau.

koulibaly

The Argentine legend has claimed that if Koulibaly were white the defender would be playing for either Barcelona on Real Madrid.

Koulibaly, 24, has been one of Napoli’s key players this season, playing 39 times across all competitions for the Italian club.

Maradona, who won two league titles with Napoli, believes white players are favoured over black players and that if Koulibaly were white he would by plying his trade at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“If Koulibaly was white he would be playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona. Racism still exists in football,” Maradona told Piuenne TV. “The white players are always favoured over black player – and that is a disgrace.”

Gambia Sports Minister Slams CAF Officials

Gambia’s Minister of Youth and Sports , Alieu K. Jammeh has hit out at CAF match officials regarding their performance in the wake of his country’s 2-1 loss to Mauritania in their first leg clash in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played in Nouakchott on Friday March 25.

Minister Jammeh said “it is high time CAF began to take necessary actions against bad refereeing, adding that “bad refereeing is destroying our football in Africa”.

Minister Jammeh was speaking to journalists on Tuesday March 29 after The Gambia national team was held to a goalless draw by Mauritania in the second leg played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He stated that everybody agreed that it was as a result of bad refereeing that The Gambia lost to Mauritania in the first leg.

“The Gambia scored a clear goal that was wrongly disallowed and there was additional time given unnecessarily and that immediately Mauritania scored their second goal the match was declared ended by the referee,” he expressed concern.

He therefore called on CAF to take necessary action against the Liberian central referee Isaac T Z Montgomery that officiated the Mauritania-Gambia game in Nouakchott.

Mr Jammeh said the Liberian referee had done “disservice to Africa and African football and to himself as an African and should be ashamed of himself”.

“It is a disgrace that a referee of his level would make such poor decisions,” he further said, pondering why such an African could take such wrong decisions”.

Kenya staring Ban After Crowd Violence In AFCON Qualifiers (See Photos)

Kenya risk ban after angry fans temporarily halt match against Guinea Bissau at the Nyayo Stadium,Nairobi.

kenya vs guinea

Kenya is staring at a ban from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following crowd trouble that was witnessed during Harambee Stars’ 1-0 defeat to visiting Guinea Bissau on Sunday.

The match was temporarily stopped for over half an hour as police engaged fans in running battles with chants of “Okumbi (Stars’ coach) must go” renting the air. Hell broke loose when Sanches Semedo scored a late controversial goal that forced a section of disappointed Stars fans to leave the stadium prematurely.

Television replays, however, show it was a legitimate goal. For the fans, however, they had had enough only to resort to barbaric acts of hooliganism to express their displeasure

The continental body could also strip Kenya of the rights to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2018 should it mete out a suspension.

The scenario unfolded last evening after fans hurled missiles, halting play moments after Guinea Bissau scored in the return leg their 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifier at Nyayo Stadium.

A handful of Police officers had to fire teargas canisters to quell the unrest. FKF President Nick Mwendwa had flee Nyayo Stadium as the skirmishes spilled out of the stadium

.Matters came to a boil in Bissau when Okumbi fielded two players from the lower division side as Harambee Stars duly lost.

Six Major Highlights Ahead of AFCON Qualifying Round

Numerous African countries will be looking forward to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 in Gabon next year, which will see the winner participate in FIFA Confederation Cup in Russia in the same year.

There are five major highlights that will make the qualifying round a very fascinating one. Below are some interesting highlights.

Can the Mambas pull a surprise against the Black Stars?

The Ghana Black Stars lie on top of Group H with a maximum six points after winning their two matches. The Mozambicans will be looking to cause the biggest upset in African Football history on Thursday at the Accra sports Stadium.

The last time Ghana lost in competitive fixture in Ghana was in AFCON 2008 when there where beaten by the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in semi final clash. Abel Xavier and his men would have to pull of the greatest miracle on planet earth to be able to withstand the wrath of  a relentless Black Stars, who cant stop winning especially when it comes to qualifies.

Can Siasia Make a great comeback?

In Group G, Nigeria host Egypt on Friday, before traveling to Cairo for the return leg four days later. The Super Eagles are trailing their rivals by two points and need to win at least one of the matches to stay in contention to top their group. As only 13 group winners are guaranteed automatic qualification – the two best-placed runners’ up also qualify – there is a lot of pressure on the Super Eagles to get a result. Interim coach Samson Siasia will be without defender Kenneth Omeruo and might also miss German-based defender Leon Balogun, whose club has said he has been kept behind in Germany as he is nursing an injury.

However, the coach has plenty of international experience to call on, with on-fire English Premier League stars Odeon Ighalo and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi joining the likes of Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel and West Ham United striker Victor Moses.

Can South Africa redeemed their qualification dream?

Bafana Bafana’s situation ahead of their double-feature against Cameroon is considerably worse than that of Nigeria. The 1996 champions are bottom of Group M with just one point, five off the pace and away to the table-topping Lions on Saturday. New Indomitable Lions coach Hugo Broos, who was not in charge of the side when they picked up their six points, has re-called Alexandre Song, who has not been involved in the national side since the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Broos has controversially dropped Schalke midfielder Joel Matip, but included his brother Marvin, who captains fellow German Bundesliga side Ingolstadt.

The Belgian coach will definitely be without Porto’s Vincent Aboubakar for the first game as the striker has to sit out after picking up a suspension. Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has picked a mainly inexperienced side, with some players earning a first call-up. Nevertheless, he realises they could be knocked out this week. “This is a must win. If you look at the log, it tells us that we need to win home and away.”

Can the Big boys keep pace ?

Morocco, with new coach Herve Renard, and Cape Verde Islands head Group F with six points and face each other, with the Blue Sharks slightly better placed having a better goal difference. Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire surprisingly find themselves playing second fiddle in Group I behind Sudan. However, as they are involved in a three-team group, they have only played one game – a draw away to Sierra Leone. The Elephants face Sudan in a double-header over the next week and will be well positioned to take first place in the group should they avoid defeat.

Coach Michel Dussuyer has left nothing to chance and convinced star player Yaya Toure to return to the team. The former African Footballer of the Year heads a star-studded line-up that includes experienced players like Solomon Kalou, Serey Die, Wilfred Bony and Max Gradel. Congo and Zambia also meet twice with control of Group E on the line, while Algeria are favoured to add more space at the top of Group J against Ethiopia.

Outsiders look for openings

In Group A, Liberia could take control of proceedings with two wins this week against Djibouti. Having defeated favourites Tunisia in September of last year, the Lone Stars are trying to catch Togo to reach their third AFCON. South Sudan, who achieved their first-ever AFCON victory when they stunned Equatorial Guinea, are hoping to continue their journey towards an unexpected place at the finals with good results against Benin in Group C.

The Match of underdogs

An interesting match-up in Group L, sees Zimbabwe and Swaziland go head-to-head twice this week with the top of the table at stake. Zimbabwe have only twice appeared at the finals, while Swaziland have yet to make the showpiece event of African football. A draw and a win would see either side well-placed for an unexpected appearance at the finals. Both teams have four points and lead Malawi and Guinea by three.
