Football administrator Nana Fitz has voiced out his opinion on the bribery and match-fixing allegation involving Techiman city and Wa Africa United during week 22 of the 2014/15 GN Bank division one league season.
The Ethics committee of the Ghana football association after months of investigation and hearing ruled on the bribery allegations levelled against Techiman City by Wa Africa united during match-week 22 of the 2014/15 GN Bank Division One League season.
Nana Gyamerah Kwabena Yiakwan I of Wa African United in a letter dated 29th July, 2015, informed the GFA that the said match between the two sides was a fixed one. Wa African United further alleged in the said letter that they were given GH¢2,000.00 (Two Thousand Ghana Cedis) by Techiman City FC as well as other payments for feeding to play a match of convenience.
Techiman City owner and bank-roller, Charles Kwadwo Ntim who has been defensive in protecting the clubs premier league status is reported to have denied going into such an agreement to play a match of convenience.
Many football pundits and fans have questioned why the GFA also referred to as Micky Charles appeared to be in a hurry to publish the league start date when such a sensitive matter still lingers around and now looks set to delay the start to the league that has its own challenge of sponsorship, marketing, spectatorship and so on.
The ever vocal Nana Fitz believes the announcement of the ruling by the Ethics committee of the GFA came at a bad time and in a bad taste.
In an interview with sportscrusader.com, the former Kumasi based club, Cornerstone FC boss, Nana Fitz said, “the ethics committee of the Ghana football association got their timing on the ruling for bribery allegation totally wrong.”
He added, “a solid foundation of ex-lawyers to rule on disciplinary cases will help avoid such misunderstandings and controversies that emanate from rulings on cases as the current group of lawyers seem too busy to attend to cases at the FA.
Techiman City have threatened to review the case or better still carry it all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
