Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach, David Duncan is adamant his side’s poor start to life in the new Ghana Premier League will have no impact in the title race.
Asante Kotoko were outplayed and beaten by West Africa Football Academy at the Sogakope Stadium last weekend, courtesy of Charles Boateng and Samuel Tetteh.
With Kotoko having a good history in the league despite always starting slowly, Duncan is optimistic the premier league, a competition he described as ‘not a sprint but a marathon race’ is not far from the Porcupine Warriors reach.
“Well for the time being any defeat no matter at whose hands and at which competition you suffer, even if it’s a friendly match is likely to temporarily demoralize any side. But of course, going forward that is why we have coaches,” David said.
“We will probably will have to work on the psyche of the players.”
WAFA created numerous chances to annihilate Kotoko, but they still humbled the record premier league champions, keeping a clean sheet.
“I think WAFA took their chances. That was the difference between us and the goals they scored.
“This competition is a marathon race, not a sprint. We haven’t been knocked out of a competition, have we? It’s a long way to travel and after losing the first game, there are 29 more matches to show what we can do,” he stated.
