Former Accra Hearts of Oak schemer, Charles Asampong Taylor has questioned the quality of players that currently don the shirt of the rainbow club and believes the club won’t be able to reproduce the team that conquered Africa in the year 2000.
Hearts have failed to win the Ghana Premier League (GPL) since 2008 and with the constant change in coaches and players gives little hope to the club’s fans who dream of seeing the trophy drought came to an end.
The 20-times GPL champions escaped the jaws of relegation in the 2014/15 thanks to goal difference and the club since then has been trying to strength the squad with the signing of 10-new players and the arrival of Japanese-American head coach, Kenichi Yatshuashi.
Charles Taylor who played a major part in arguably Hearts best assembled squad in the millennium year has cast doubt on the potential of the crop of players the club has now believes the team is not showing any glimpses of returning to the rightful place as a formidable force in Ghana football.
“In the 64-battalion team of the year 2000, Hearts boasted of quality players across the team – it’s either Dida or Sammy Adjei in post or Amankwah Mireku or Dan Quaye at right back and it was same in every department of the team but same can’t be said of the current squad,” Taylor said.
“This Hearts team can’t even boast of a regular number and lest talk of a good back-up. the team is suffering because the starting line-up (players) are below quality and this he attributed to poor attitude and behaviour,” he added.
Hearts play New Edubiase in their opening game of the 2015/16 premier league season.
