The President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (WTF), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah has revealed the federation’s plans of seeking legal backing to enable the various weightlifting clubs around the country operate.
At the recently held annual weightlifting congress in Accra at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium the federation believed the initiative will help place ownership and power in the hands of the various fun clubs, regional associations and the other stakeholders as against what pertains in the current constitution which gives lot of power and authority to the Board and few National team athletes.
Mr. Nunoo-Mensah said, “the reviewed document will give the required recognition to other stakeholders as well which includes the newly formed Coaches Association, Retired Lifters Association (RLA), Technical Officials Association (TOA), education, security services and Expatriate Communities involved in the promotion and development of weightlifting will be recognized by the constitution.
“The new constitution will also give legal backing to the new weightlifting clubs who will be the bedrock of weightlifting and the growth of the sport in the country” he added.
The next weightlifting congress is scheduled for February 2017,where new executives will be elected.
