Ghanaian Trio Fail To Impress At World Indoor Championship

Ghana’s Trio at the track and field event failed to win any medal for the country at the just ended World Indoor Championship in Portland, Oregon, USA.

The Ghanaian Athletics were hoping to win medals at last weekend’s Championship but the trio of Flings Owusu-Agyapong (60m), Emmanuel Dasor (400m) and Sean Safo-Antwi (60m), who earlier this month, successfully had a nationality switch from Britain, all failed to impress.

They all failed in improving either their personal or seasonal best ahead of the Rio Olympics later this year.

Sarfo Antwi who has already qualified for the Olympics went into the competition as the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix champion, winning the 60m event and topping it up with a third place finish at the British Championships were he secured his ticket to Portland

Dasor and Owusu-Agyepong will be looking forward to improving on their performance in the upcoming outdoor championships later in April to stand any chance of qualifying to the Olympics in Brazil.

Cycling: Ghanaian Quartet Depart For Rio Qualifiers In Morocco

Four Ghanaian cyclists are billed to leave the shores of the country for the 2016 Rio Olympic games qualifiers slated for Morocco.

The quartet will be led by Anthony Boakye for the North African trip as they look to return with qualification tickets under their belts.

The experience Boakye will be in the competition with Frank Akuffo, Clement Kussi and Abdul Razak Umar for the Under 23 male category in the road race set to kick off on Sunday February 20, 2016, in Morroco.

The continental cycling gathering will see athletes graded on individual basis by their time frame as the search for African slots intensifies.

The quartet are expected to leave the shores of the country in the early hours of Friday en route to the qualification tourney.

Ghana’s hope of hoisting her flag in the female category st the Rio Olympics has been placed on the exploits Asibi Sylvia Amoako, who will be gunning for the female ticket in the road race.

Scottish based Ghanaian cyclist Jedidiah Amoako will battling for his place in the Rio showdown in the track cycling over the weekends as well in the North African side.

Ghana’s hope of securing any cycling to Rio could be determined by the close of Tuesday, 27th February 2016 when the final list of African qualifiers would have been released

The trip is reportedly been sponsored by Ghana Cycling Federation.

Exclusive: Charles Folley terminates contract with Etihaad El Zarqah

Ghanaian striker Charles Folley has mutually terminated his contract with Etihaad El Zarqah after a disastrous campaign in the Jordanian second tier league.

The nomadic forward parted ways with his relegated side at the end of the season despited featuring prominently for the struggling side.

Etihaad El Zarqah endured a torrid end to the season culminating in a well deserved relegation amidst financial meltdown.

The ex Fair Point striker registered 3 goals in his 8 leagye appearances for the relegated side.

The much travelled Ghanaian announced himself to the domestic rivals with his attacking impetus across the season.

The much sort after striker was sent off for El Zarqah at home to Aqaba in a Ghanaian derby on Jordanian soil and missed the last two fixtures as the season collapsed at the vital stage.

“I have finally terminated my deal with Etihaad El Zarqah at the end of the season.

“We have agreed to go our ways at the end of the season in Jordan.” Folley told www.sportscrusader.com

The Ghanaian could however return to the gulf region with a number of clubs in a mad rush for his services ahead of the 2016 domestic season.

Compatriot Ben Acheampong missed out on promotion in similar manner for Aqaba despite his eight impressive strikes in the division one league.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko congratulated player and striker, Ahmed Adams on been crowned ghana premier league best player at the Ghana sports fans award gala held yesterday at the best western premier hotel.

 

The annual award organised by Global media alliance in conjunction with Happy fm recognises various sports personalities and acknowledge their contribution towards the development of the sports disciplines they are engaged in.

The 23 – times Ghana premier league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko congratulated their player for beating Eric Opoku of Ashgold, Kennedy Ashia of Liberty professionals and Sabbah Laryea of Hearts Of oak.

THe club statement read, It is a testament of how Ghanaian fans have acknowledged his immense effort last season (2014/15). He is a proud porcupine and kotoko is proud of him. We also commend the fans who voted for him.

Kotoko are currently on Christmas bring and will resume camping soon to begin preparations for their 80th anniversary game against FC Veria of Greece on the 3rd of January, 2016.

During Xmas, it is a norm for many European clubs to take full advantage of the season to sell their brand (club, players etc).

 

Typically English clubs and Spanish clubs organise end of year parties for the team, sew special Xmas clothes to be sold to raise funds for the needy and also visit hospitals to share in the joy with children who are diagnosed with serious and at times deadly sicknesses.

 

These Christmas activities and gestures bridges the gap between the club and it’s fans but many Ghanaian clubs are not noted to tow that path (of bridging the gap the club and it’s fan base). In the 21st era when social media has become a “simple tool” to use to market virtually everything, it is difficult to fathom why my Ghanaian clubs do not want to take full advantage of it to promote their brand (clubs).

Kumasi Asante Kotoko players in the Christmas festive mood

Kumasi Asante Kotoko will make history when video footage emerges of the playing body (players) wishing fans, sponsors and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II – owner of the club merry Xmas. This will be the first time a Ghanaian club has done this for its fans and sponsors.

 

The players will engage in singing Christmas carols, read messages – to their supporters, sponsors, management, board of directors and the traditional ruler and owner of the club Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Communications manager of the club, Kwaku Ahenkorah, said in an interview to the club’s official website, the video’s sole purpose is to say “thank you”. We know lot of things didn’t go the way we anticipated but then nothing stops us from appreciating the diverse support we received”.

“The players’ video is to tell the life patron, board of directors, management, sponsors, supporters and all who played a part in our life this year that, we are grateful” he added.

 

The video recordings have been done and will be shown during the festive period.
