I"m Going To Kumasi To Take all Three Points - Sergio

Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Sergio Tranguil has assured fans of the club of his desire to claim all three points against Kumasi Asante Kotoko when the two heavyweights meet in their Match-Day 21 encounter of the Ghana Premier League  (GPL) at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Having gained 11 points from a maximum of 15 in this second round, the Phobians look poised for this ‘Super Clash’ between Ghana’s to biggest clubs as they hold a five points gap over their rivals after Kotoko were thrashed 4-1 by relegation threatened Ebusua Dwarfs in their midweek clash at Cape Coast.

Hearts posted a 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea in Accra to maintain their leadership of the GPL log heading into this weekend’s round of games.

In a post match interview after that encounter, Sergio said; “I knew of Kotoko before I came to this country, of course news of their defeat brings me joy as they are contending for the title, and come Sunday I am going into the game to take all three points”.

The recent happenings at the top of the GPL table could  give a glimpse of who are real title contenders going into the next round of games and as scheduled all matches will take place on Saturday, 23 July except the Kotoko-Hearts clash which will be played on Sunday, 24 July in Kumasi.

NSA Sack Kotoko From Baba Yara Stadium

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has prevented Asante Kotoko from using the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for this afternoon’s training session.

The Porcupine Warriors used the facility for their training session this morning without approval from heads of the edifice.

They returned to the Stadium this afternoon to train, but the  NSA boss in the Ashanti Region, Iddrisu Richard denied them that opportunity.

Kotoko will head to their Adako Jachie training grounds, a place they refused to use earlier today in their bid to stay away from Coach David Duncan who was asked to step aside after their 1-0 league loss to Aduana Stars on Sunday.

Coach David Duncan, was at the Adako Jachie training grounds to oversee this morning’s training and promised to return to the ground this afternoon for training.

Kotoko Needs Their Own Stadium - Duncan

David Duncan, head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has suggested that the club should get its own stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors uses the state owned stadium, Baba Yara in Kumasi for their matches in all competitions for the past five or so decades.

But David Duncan has suggested that the team’s ‘fortunes will be changed drastically’ if they have their own stadium.

“The performance of the team was good but I think if we have our own stadium like they [Aduana] do, Kotoko’s fortunes would change drastically,” Duncan said.

“I do not think any team can beat Kotoko if we also had a stadium like they do here. In that case, we would win every home game,” he added.

Duncan explained that a team with it’s own pitch enjoy undue advantage.

“I’m saying if Kotoko have their own stadium like it is here, I think that Kotoko will win the league as long as they want to,” Duncan repeated.

The former AshGold boss also refused to accept defeat, saying the result was not a fair reflection of the game.

“The performance of the boys was great and fantastic. I haven’t seen anything like this before from the Kotoko players ever since I took over the job,” he added.

Kotoko dropped to the foot of the table after their 1-0 loss to Aduana Stars on Sunday. They will host Liberty Professionals who trashed defending champions AshGold 5-1 at the Carl Reindorf Park on Sunday.

GPL Report: Kotoko End Barren Run

Kumasi Asante Kotoko ended their classless season on Friday night when they hosted Sekondi Hasaacas.

Kwame Boateng rose when it mattered most to save the job of David Duncan and earned the team first winning bonuses of the season.

He ended brilliant move started by Stephen Nyarko from right flank, dummying Kingsley Adjei before slotting the ball beyond the reach of the outstanding George Owu on 71 minutes.

Sekondi Hasaacas sat at the back for most part of the game, barely marking incursions forward to hurt Kotoko. The game plan of Basigi allowed the Porcupine Warriors to dictate the proceedings from the onset to their barren run in the season.

The first glorious opportunity fell the way of Dauda Mohammed who returned into the line in place of Obed Owusu.

The 19-year-old failed to to beat the ever brilliant George Owu from close. The former Black Stars goalkeeper saved with his feet to keep to frustrate David Duncan’s boys.

It was all Kotoko covering the grasses of the Baba Yara sports stadium and they did so brilliantly, but lacked the cutting edge to find the back of the net.

The Porcupine Warriors continued from where they left before recess, knocking at the door of Hasaacas. The Takoradi-based club remained happy to soak the pressure.

They however struggled to beat George Owu who muffled their strikes at goal. He pulled off massive save to deny  Theophilous Nyame’s driving header from Edwin Frimpong’s cross, but five minutes later, the deadlock was broken.

Stephen Nyarko strolled the ball onto the path of Dauda Mohammed, the youngster found Kwame Boateng who was in better position, and he made no mistake. He dummied his marker Kingsley Adjei and stroke the  ball low into net.

Hasaacas responded to the set back and took the game to the record premeir league champions, but they backline had all the answers. Delayed tactics were adopted by Asante Kotoko to frustrate Hasaacas and they succeeded– keeping their record of never loosing a Friday game at the Baba Yara sports stadium intact, whilst easing the pressure and earning the team winning bonuses.

Ainooson Calls For Fans Support For Kotoko

Al Hilal versatile defender, Abeiku Ainooson has called on fans of Kotoko to fill the Baba Yara stands on Friday to cheer the team to victory.

Asante Kotoko are struggling to regain the rhythm that won them the GHALCA Six invitational tournament in Sekondi in pre-season.

They’ve lost two and drawn two of their four league matches and are in a relegation dog fight early on in the season.

Fans of the Porcupine Warriors are frustrated at the abysmal start to this year’s campaign, and Ainooson who left Asante Kotoko during the off-season, has called on fans to cheer the team this evening to beat Hasaacas.

He believes a win tonight will change the fortunes of the club for the rest of the season.

“The fans are an integral part of the success of Kotoko. They should throng into the stadium in their numbers and support the team for 90 minutes,” Ainoosen told Kumasi based Otec FM.

“Kotoko is all that we’ve got and must not let the club down despite the poor start to the season. A win against Hasaacas will change a lot of things.

“Moreover, the situation was almost the same last year but through hard work and togetherness, we were able to finish the season on a high, placing second in the end.

“All is not lost, it’s just four games gone and situations can change if supporters help the team like they did for us last season,” He said.

"Black Presdent" Donates Kits To Kotoko

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko forward, Sarfo Gyamfi has donated a set of anklets and sheen guards to the playing body to help protect the players from injuring as the new Ghana a premier League season (GPL) draws closer.

Sarfo Gyamfi nicknamed the ‘Black President’ is a legend of the club who played for the club between 1985 and 1990 and his untainted love for Kotoko is open to all and it is that the driving force behind his donation to the club

to help the course of reclaiming the league title they lost to regional rivals Ashgold.

In a related development the team doctor of Kotoko, Dr. Kwaku Boateng Arthur had earlier advised teams in the Ghana premier League on the importance of wearing football protective kits during training and football matches.

He said, “our pitches here in Ghana are uneven unlike it is in Europe or developed countries and for this reason we call on all footballers to wear anklets or ankle support before a match. The anklet will protect a footballers ankle or give it support should a footballer twist the ankle during a game.”

Some Ghanaian footballers in the local league are noted for playing football matches without their protective gears.

Injuries that are avoidable have hit Ghanaian players due to their ignorance and also the poor nature of the playing pitches at some league centres.

In an interview with Kumasi baed, Boss fm, the ‘Black president’ said, “Lately Kotoko players get injured easily and that is a worry to me. Recently Dauda Mohammed got injured and I had the opportunity of seeing his injured leg.”

“What I witnessed what he had put on the socks without any protective kit either for the ankle or the sheen and a team like Kotoko should not have players play football without the protective wears. This influenced my donation of the kits and hope I can do more in the future,” he added.

Kotoko will play division one side, Vision FC in a club friendly match on Wednesday as coach David Duncan and his players fine tune preparations towards the commencement of the league on Feb 20.

MOYS Consider PPP To Help Maintain Stadia

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) are embarking on a radical but hopefully effective approach to help maintain the marginally deteriorating state of the various stadia in Ghana.

The Accra and Kumasi sports stadium which were recently renovated as well along with the newly built Tamale and Sekondi sports stadium that hosted the continent of Africa in the African cup of nations (AFCON) in 2008 are suffering with maintenance.

The green grass that ought to beautify the playing surface and make playing football a nice piece of art are rather going dry making the pitch appear more of straw field. The paints that cover the metal bars are peeling off and as a result is causing the bars to rust, the washroom are unpleasant to the eyes and so many more.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) and MOYS have come under ruthless attack for paying lip service to maintaining the national asset and focusing more on the commercial gains but Otto Plaha, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the ministry has denied those claims.

In an interview with boss fm 93.7, the revealed the plans from the MOYS to help keep the various stadia in shape and save the state from spending needlessly on restructuring when the least damage can be repaired.

Plaha said, “The MOYS  is looking at the possibility of a private-public partnership to help manage and maintain the various stadia in Ghana and government has informed the NSA.”

“The ministry has informed the NSA to charge any supporter with damage to state property at the various stadia. This will enable the NSA and MOYS protect both properties and lives,” he added.

Kotoko Warned Of Fine Pre-Season "Curse" - Jabir

In-form Kumasi Asante Kotoko have been tipped by bookmakers, sports pundit and neutral football fans to mount a strong start to the commencement of the Ghana premier league for the 2015/16 season or even reclaim the title they lost to regional rivals Obuasi Ashagold SC.

The 23-times Ghana premier league champions have been in excellent form with even the division of the team for pre-season friendlies in Libya and the other team playing and winning the maiden GHALCA G6 trophy couldn’t expose the weakness in team and the Kotoko fans and management have found it difficult to hide the joy of quality that has all of a sudden growth of player quality within the team.

But Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko player and coach, Malik Jabir has cautioned his old club and the fans to be cautious in their immediate celebration of league victory without kicking a ball yet as that might be a fluke to a disastrous season ahead.

The Ghana U-23 coach in an interview with Kumasi based Boss fm, said, “pre-season friendlies can’t be a yardstick for Kotoko to claim league favourite tag. Those claiming the Kotoko team has excelled in pre-season so automatically will win the league is a none starter as quite often good pre-season doesn’t warrant league success.”

“With 5-games played into the season and the corresponding results then make a clear and an exact picture of what the Kotoko team bring into the new season will be visible to all. As is the challenge for many Ghanaian clubs, goalscoring will also count – in Kotoko’s case if the goals flow from the start of the season then we can conclude the current Kotoko team is a finished product but until then I beg to differ, he added.

Kotoko were scheduled to play Nigerian side, Ifeanyi Ubah in an international pre-season match at the Baba Yara sports stadium but the game has been cancelled.

Ministry Of Sports Owes Us Since... - Green Grass Technology

Gov’t Owes Us – GGT

Green Grass Technology (GGT), a company specialize in delivering natural grass fields that meet the high standards demanded by professional sports governing bodies has reveled they owed huge amounts by the government of Ghana.

GGT in preparation for the then upcoming 2008 Africa Cup of Nations put in a bid to maintain the pitches after the tournament and was awarded by the Government of Ghana Department of Education Science & Sports, the proposal also included an embark and ambitious programme to develop sporting facilities that will become a lasting legacy for the nation.

Notably among the lots are the Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale sports stadium and the various training pitches that were built at some selected senior high schools across the country.

Managing Director of GGT, Frank Boahene in an interview with Boss 93.7 fm in Kumasi revealed the sports ministry’s inability to settle debt owed and efforts to claim those money only keeps dragging on.

“The government of Ghana has been indebted to us (Green Grass Technology) since 2012 and with the appointment of a new minister (Nii Lantey Vanderpuije) we hope to continue negotiations with him as previous dealings with former Sports minister, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed ended inconclusively.”

Yes! the country is going through some financial challenges but we have made in-roads with the previous minister. We had an arrangement for part if not all that the ministry is owing us to be paid. We hope to finalise that part with the new minister and we hope with the invoices at the ministry, money owed we can be sorted out,” he added.

The Accra sports stadium playing surface currently is in a bad state and appears more of a ‘potato field’ than a football playing surface.

Transfer: "It Will Be Difficult To Keep Hold Of Our Players" - Kotoko CEO

Kotoko’s Players Poached By Other Clubs – Opoku Nti Confirms

Kumasi Asante kotoko played their second and final game in a two legged game away in Libya after Coach Duncan divided the team into two before departing for the North African country.

Tagged as Kotoko team B, the new players and the infusion of experienced duo Jordan Opoku and Richard Ofori helped Kotoko win the maiden edition of GHALCA First Trust G6. The Porcupine warriors started the tournament as second favourite to regional rivals and current premier league champions, Ashgold.

The 23 times Ghana premier league champions surprised many after winning all the three games played and annexing the trophy with what was called ‘a depleted’ team after Coach Duncan named a strong team to depart for Libya. The zeal, desire and joy of wearing the red jersey crowned with hunger to prove a point made the ‘team B’ successful and victorious.

It is this success that has caused a huge scare among first team players who were sure of secured positions with Chief Executive Officer of Kotoko and former player, Opoku Nti lavishing praise on the depth of quality within the team and the performance shown by all involved.

The first team put in a revived second half performance against Al-Ettihad of Tripoli though the results went against the warriors the performance was met with huge applause from the spectators who couldn’t hide their appreciation of Kotoko’s possessive game.

In an interview with Kumasi based, Boss FM, Opoku Nti nicknamed Lord Zico was asked if the club will consider cashing in on any of their players. His answer was rather a fascinating one saying, “I alone can’t decide. It is true clubs have shown interest in our players.”

He added, “the transfer window closes soon so no deal can be made but maybe we might do business n the summer.”

Kotoko will return home later today after drawing in yesterdays game against the same opposition in matchday 1 in Tripoli.

Thirst For More: There"s More Room For Improvement - Kotoko Coach

Kotoko Must Improve If … – David Duncan

Kotoko ensured Berekum Chelsea exited the GHALCA First Trust G6 tourney when the two sides met. Two first half goals and one in the second half was enough to send the Berekum based team packing.

The tournament was into day two after matches played in day one served fans no goals nor much entertainment to cheer about but the 23 – times Ghana premier league champions, Kotoko ensured day two was not same with the best performance of the tournament so far shown from them.

Like all individuals who have strong ambitions and yearn for more, Kotoko head coach, David Duncan loved what his team displayed but still thinks they fell short of some few decision making especially upfront.

Kotoko will divide the team into two as a part of the squad depart for an international friendly in Libya whilst the other remain to compete in the GHALCA First Trust G6 tourney.

Former Sports Minister Calls For GFA To Investigate Kotoko - Jagodina Game

Punish Kumas Asante Kotoko If …

Former Deputy Sports Minister O.B Amoah has called on Ghana Football Association to investigate and possibly sanction Kotoko if they erred in anyway with the much talked about 80th anniversary game.

Kotoko hosted Serbian super liga side, FK Jagodina on Sunday to commemorate the clubs’s 80th anniversary. The gamed ended with the Ghanaian club thrashing the Serbians by 5 – goals to nil with media reports claiming FK Jagodina arrived with 11 – reserve players and had to sneak into their team some players from the local clubs, notably Techiman city player and this has angered the club’s CEO, Micky Charles who has threatened to sue Jagodina – but that is for another day.

O.B. Amoah who was deputy minister for Youth and sports when Ghana qualified for her first World cup in 2006 believes he has identified some anomalies with the organisation of the match and suggest the right sanction if there’s the need for any should be applied.

In an interview as a special guest on Accra based radio, Asempa FM, Mr. Amoah said, “In fact, GFA must investigate this matter.” It is a serious issue. The fact that GFA has sanctioned the match doesn’t mean you can do anything you like  the Member of Parliament for Aburi-Nsawam added.

He ended with a caution for all claiming, “We will be setting a bad precedence when we let this thing go without the right sanctions.”

Many Kotoko fans feel angry and disappointed by the level of organization of the game and the strength of the opposition and ‘shame’ their club has been put through.

Former Sports Minister Calls For GFA To Investigate Kotoko - Jagodina Game

Verdict: Kotoko Should Not Have Played Jagodina

Evidence For Kotoko To Call Off Jagodina Game Were ‘Clear’

Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s 80th anniversary game against Jagodina has already been honoured but the commentaries on the match, it’s organisation and the Serbians abysmal preparations towards the match still hovers around.

Former deputy Youth and Sports minister O.B. Amoah, Some Football pundits and fans of Kotoko have called on the Ghana football Association to investigate and possibly sanction the organisers (Pacific Football Limited) of the game for poor organisation and preparation of Kotoko’s 80th anniversary game.

Kotoko PR team member, Jerome Otchere

Kotoko PR team member, Jerome Otchere

Kotoko’s opponent, arrived from Serbia with less than 24 hours left on the clock before the match and without first team regular players and football kits. The European club had to name some players from clubs here in Ghana on their bench just to make up the numbers.

Not surprising with such poor preparations and late arrival, Kotoko thrashed them 5 – goals to nil. Coach Vladica Milanovic in his post match interview in a disguised manner might have conceded they should not have played the game stating, “we got here late and were very tired.
