Ghanaian hi-life legend, Abrantie Amakye Dede as vowed to fix the drainage challenge confronting Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Adako Jachie training ground.

 

 

The playing surface of the training pitch is not in the best condition for a team to train on as it looks hazardous for the players to train on and this Sarfo Gyamfi, a former player of the club is leading a crusade to help raise funds from the supporters to help install a proper drainage system to soften the surface. 

 

The musician nicknamed ‘Serious’ doesn’t think the status of Kotoko warrants the kind of condition the pitch is depicting and that has convinced him to help in the way he deems fit.

 

 

“I spoke to Sarfo Gyamfi and I’m surprised he’s publicised it on radio but as a diehard Kotoko fan, I’m only contributing my quota to the growth and development of the club.”

 

 

“If a team as big as Kotoko training on a hard surface is obviously not a pleasant sight so I immediately asked him to find a solution to the drainage challenge at the training grounds and I’m ready to bare the cost,” he added.

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko forward, Sarfo Gyamfi has donated a set of anklets and sheen guards to the playing body to help protect the players from injuring as the new Ghana a premier League season (GPL) draws closer.

 

Sarfo Gyamfi nicknamed the ‘Black President’ is a legend of the club who played for the club between 1985 and 1990 and his untainted love for Kotoko is open to all and it is that the driving force behind his donation to the club

to help the course of reclaiming the league title they lost to regional rivals Ashgold.

In a related development the team doctor of Kotoko, Dr. Kwaku Boateng Arthur had earlier advised teams in the Ghana premier League on the importance of wearing football protective kits during training and football matches.

He said, “our pitches here in Ghana are uneven unlike it is in Europe or developed countries and for this reason we call on all footballers to wear anklets or ankle support before a match. The anklet will protect a footballers ankle or give it support should a footballer twist the ankle during a game.”

 

Some Ghanaian footballers in the local league are noted for playing football matches without their protective gears.

Injuries that are avoidable have hit Ghanaian players due to their ignorance and also the poor nature of the playing pitches at some league centres.

 

In an interview with Kumasi baed, Boss fm, the ‘Black president’ said, “Lately Kotoko players get injured easily and that is a worry to me. Recently Dauda Mohammed got injured and I had the opportunity of seeing his injured leg.”

“What I witnessed what he had put on the socks without any protective kit either for the ankle or the sheen and a team like Kotoko should not have players play football without the protective wears. This influenced my donation of the kits and hope I can do more in the future,” he added.

 

Kotoko will play division one side, Vision FC in a club friendly match on Wednesday as coach David Duncan and his players fine tune preparations towards the commencement of the league on Feb 20.

International Friendly: Kotoko Face Libyan Side On Wednesday

Kotoko Face Libyan Club Ittihad

Kotoko will play Ittihad Tripoli on Wednesday in the first of two friendly games lined up to shape up the team with the aim of reclaiming their crown as Ghana premier league champions.

 

 

The Porcupine warriors game against Ittihad will be the clubs first game in Libya after they departed for Tripoli on Saturday in preparedness for the upcoming 2015/16 Ghana premier league.

 

Kotoko travelled to Libya after playing one game in the just ended First Trust G6 tourney. The team was divided into two with the first team squad departing for the international friendly in Triipoli whilst the remaining team were left to compete in the Ghalca organised competition.

 

 

The Porcupine warriors won the maiden G6 and will look to replicate the same form when they play Libyan side, Ittihad on Wednesday at 4pm in Libya and 2pm GMT in a three team tourney.

Kotoko ensured Berekum Chelsea exited the GHALCA First Trust G6 tourney when the two sides met. Two first half goals and one in the second half was enough to send the Berekum based team packing.

 

The tournament was into day two after matches played in day one served fans no goals nor much entertainment to cheer about but the 23 – times Ghana premier league champions, Kotoko ensured day two was not same with the best performance of the tournament so far shown from them.

Like all individuals who have strong ambitions and yearn for more, Kotoko head coach, David Duncan loved what his team displayed but still thinks they fell short of some few decision making especially upfront.

The former Accra Hearts of Oak boss said, “There’s still more room for improvement after such a good performance though. Remember we lost to them (Chelsea) during the league and we needed this victory to boost the morale of the new lads (players) and the old as well.”

 

Kotoko will divide the team into two as a part of the squad depart for an international friendly in Libya whilst the other remain to compete in the GHALCA First Trust G6 tourney.

Kotoko Replace FC Veria With Serbian Club For January Anniversary Match

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have finally bent over and replaced Greek club FC Veria for the much touted 80th anniversary clash on 3rd January, 2016.

 

Kotoko / FC Veria match has been called on and off on countless occasions but the Ghana premier league champions have always denied the game has been cancelled.  The organisers and porcupine warriors hierarchy have finally settled on another club to celebrate the clubs anniversary after last minute hiccup with Greek side, FC Veria.

Chief executive officer of Pacific Football ghana limited, eric oppong yeboah, has confirmed, “we have suffered some setbacks in trying to get ths match played and the last one had to do with changing the opponent because of a last minute hitch. We contacted our agents in Serbia and we had Jagodina ready to come down”.

The Serbian club was formed in the year 1919 and play in the top division of Serbian football, Superliga.

 

FC Veria were the second club to turn down the invitation after Romanian side, Petrolul FC turned down the offer of facing Kotoko.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko congratulated player and striker, Ahmed Adams on been crowned ghana premier league best player at the Ghana sports fans award gala held yesterday at the best western premier hotel.

 

The annual award organised by Global media alliance in conjunction with Happy fm recognises various sports personalities and acknowledge their contribution towards the development of the sports disciplines they are engaged in.

The 23 – times Ghana premier league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko congratulated their player for beating Eric Opoku of Ashgold, Kennedy Ashia of Liberty professionals and Sabbah Laryea of Hearts Of oak.

THe club statement read, It is a testament of how Ghanaian fans have acknowledged his immense effort last season (2014/15). He is a proud porcupine and kotoko is proud of him. We also commend the fans who voted for him.

Kotoko are currently on Christmas bring and will resume camping soon to begin preparations for their 80th anniversary game against FC Veria of Greece on the 3rd of January, 2016.

During Xmas, it is a norm for many European clubs to take full advantage of the season to sell their brand (club, players etc).

 

Typically English clubs and Spanish clubs organise end of year parties for the team, sew special Xmas clothes to be sold to raise funds for the needy and also visit hospitals to share in the joy with children who are diagnosed with serious and at times deadly sicknesses.

 

These Christmas activities and gestures bridges the gap between the club and it’s fans but many Ghanaian clubs are not noted to tow that path (of bridging the gap the club and it’s fan base). In the 21st era when social media has become a “simple tool” to use to market virtually everything, it is difficult to fathom why my Ghanaian clubs do not want to take full advantage of it to promote their brand (clubs).

Kumasi Asante Kotoko will make history when video footage emerges of the playing body (players) wishing fans, sponsors and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II – owner of the club merry Xmas. This will be the first time a Ghanaian club has done this for its fans and sponsors.

 

The players will engage in singing Christmas carols, read messages – to their supporters, sponsors, management, board of directors and the traditional ruler and owner of the club Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Communications manager of the club, Kwaku Ahenkorah, said in an interview to the club’s official website, the video’s sole purpose is to say “thank you”. We know lot of things didn’t go the way we anticipated but then nothing stops us from appreciating the diverse support we received”.

“The players’ video is to tell the life patron, board of directors, management, sponsors, supporters and all who played a part in our life this year that, we are grateful” he added.

 

The video recordings have been done and will be shown during the festive period.
