Match Day Six of the 2015/2016 GN Bank National Division One League, were cleared over the weekend with some very surprising score lines recorded in Zone One.

Berlin FC, maintained their position as leaders of Zone One, despite failing to amass all three points at home to Mpuasoman on Saturday.

The Japekrom based side, came into the game as the underdogs, but managed to run away with a point after grabbing a second half equalizer after Berlin FC, had taken the lead in the first half.

Following Berlin FC’s Saturday draw with Mpuasoman, Bofoakwa had the chance to go at least two points clear at the top of the table in Zone One. But the Tano based outfit failed to make the advantage count as they were thrashed 4-1 by RTU at the Tamale stadium on Sunday.

Simple: Berekum Arsenal Should Be Promoted

An Idiomatic expression reads, “One man’s meat is another man’s poison” and the announcement on the Ethics committees ruling on the bribery allegation involving Techiman city and Wa Africa united during the 2014/15 GN Bank division one season confirms that adage with Berekum Arsenal and Real Tamale United fighting over who replaces the Techiman club in the premier league for the upcoming 2015/16 season.

The Ethics committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) yesterday officially brought over months of investigation into the allegations to an end but the verdict has not gone down too well with Techiman City who had been accused by Wa Africa United for offering an amount of Ghc2000 (Two thousand Ghana cedis) as bribe to play a match of convenience in match-week 22 of last seasons DOL.

Flashback: Berekum Arsenal host Hearts of Oak in a premier league game before their relegation to division one.

Douglas Effah, the general secretary of Berekum Arsenal a former premier league side has argued out for his to be awarded automatic promotion instead of Real Tamale United who finished in 2nd place to the demoted Techiman city in Zone 3 of the division one.

In an interview with Kumasi based, Boss fm, Effah stated, “The rule states clearly the promotion of the second placed team herein Real Tamale United (RTU) after the demotion of Techiman city (who topped Zone B) the second placed team – RTU should be promoted immediately but in this case the third placed team, Berekum Arsenal had  better results in games involving the two and that is the essence of the head-to-head ruling.

“If the head-to-head ruling isn’t effective then what is the importance of it been applied to relegate a team during a season? As we knew this (demotion of Techiman City) we’ve been preparing for the new premier league season and hopefully the FA doesn’t give us limited time of just two days to register our players else… In the spirit of fair play we’ll ask the FA for time to register and finish preparation as we’re not to be blamed for the mess created,” he added.

The ethic committee ruling demoted both Techiman city and Wa Africa united to division 3 of Ghana football.

GFA Disappointed With Lawyer Obiri Boahen

Ghana Football Association is disappointed with comments made by Lawyer Obiri Boahen, head of the legal team leading Wa African United to the offices of the FA for a copy of the Ethics Committee ruling on the Techiman City – Wa African United alleged match-fixing.

The Ghana FA has not made public the ruling from the Ethics Committee on the matter and has not confirmed the adjudicating body has concluded sitting on the case but has moved on to fix a date for the commencement of the new season.

And Lawyer Obiri Boahen, head of Obiri Boahen and Associates, a legal firm contacted by Real Tamale United, Berekum Arsenal and Wa African United to write to the FA for a copy of the ruling, described the football governing body a ‘hopeless organisation’ for fixing a date for the commencement of the new premier league season without clearing the issue.

And the FA, through its vice president George Afriyie has labelled Lawyer Obiri Boahen comments ‘unfortunate.’

“Lawyer Obiri Boahen is a well respected person in the society. If you look at his status in politics and society, he is well respected and what ever he says has far fetching consequences,” the Liberty Professionals chairman said.

He added: “I was a bit disappointed when he said GFA is a hopeless organisation. As an elderly person in the society and a well respected person for that matter, he could have spoken without calling the FA names.

“Moreover as a lawyer, per his understanding of the case before the FA, he couldn’t even determine whether RTU or Berekum Arsenals will replace Techiman City should they lose their case and confirmed demoted to the Division Two.

“Secondly, he knows you can’t go to a court and force a judge handling a case to give his ruling. It is a process… the Ethics Committee of the FA has listened to both sides and are still processing the case and he can’t force them to give ruling.

“And the FA has not told anyone the Ethics Committee has finished with the case…they’re still on it and at the appropriate time, we will make their findings public.” He stated.

The Ghana Premier League will commence on February 20.

We Want A Copy Of Ethics Committee Ruling On Techiman City - Wa African United

Legal battles continue to knock on the doors of the Ghana Football Association as Wa African United, Real Tamale United, Berekum Arsenal and  B.A United petition the FA to give them a copy of the Ethics Committee ruling on a case against Techiman City Football Club.

At the tail part of Division One league football last season, Techiman City and Wa African United were demoted to the third tier of Ghana football — Division Two for alleged match-fixing.

Techiman City appealed the decision by the Disciplinary Committee and were granted stay of execution until the end of the season pending hearing before the FA legal body.

The FA has not released the outcome of Ethics Committee ruling on the matter –which has delayed the start of the new football calendar by about three months, but fixed a date for the commencement of the league.

And Wa African United, Berekum Arsenals and Real Tamale United has petitioned the football governing body to give them a copy of the ruling on the case or face them in court.

Head of legal team of the three clubs, Lawyer Obiribua says their request before the FA is harmless.

“We’ve not gone to court yet, but if the Ghana Football Association continue to exhibit that kind of intracecent behaviour or posture we have no option than to go to court,” Lawyer Obiribua told sportscrusader.com

He added: “The issues are not anything that should bring controversy at all. It is very simple; the reconstituted Ghana Football Association Ethics Committee sat on a case lodged by Wa African United against Techiman City. The matter went to the Disciplinary Committee, then to the Appeals Committee, then it came back to the reconstituted Disciplinary Committee.

“The reconstituted Ethics Committee sat on the matter and has not released the verdict, but what we are hearing is that the Ghana FA is ready to commence the league. So what is the outcome of that committee sitting; did Wa African United lose the protest, did Techiman City win the protest?

“Let us know the Committee’s report. If you tell the whole world the Committee’s report before commencing the league what will be the effect? We have made a simple harmless request and they are throwing their weight about.” He noted.

Lawyer Obiribua also disclosed that the FA has  until Monday February 1 to make the report available or face them in court.

The Ghana Premier League scheduled date will in limo should they acquire an injunction in the start of the league.
