Veteran sports journalist, Osei Owusu Bempah has offered a free advice to designate Youth and sports minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye who will visit the vetting committee of Parliament as he readies to take the portfolio of arguably the hottest and most analysed ministry.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuye who has many years of experience as a sports journalist will for the first time take over a portfolio (sport discipline) that is of great interest to him. The former football commentator, retired sports journalist and ex-special aide to the late President John Atta Mills will become the 8th minister in the Youth and Sports ministry under National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, since 2009.
Owusu Bempah cautioned Nii Lantey concerning his work that it will come under the media microscope virtually everyday with many questioning his decisions but believed he will succeed only if he can tolerate all (insult and criticisms) that is thrown at him.
Osei Owusu Bempah said, “the sports minister is probably the most mentioned minister maybe besides the president of Ghana and the Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi. The mentioning quite often comes with uncomplimentary remarks and for him to be successful he will need to be able to harbour the nonsense that will be thrown at him.”
“The biggest test for Nii Lantey will be his temperament and should he fail to pass the test surely we will see him replaced before the current NDC administration complete their term in office as Ghana goes to the poll in November, he added.”
