GN Bank DOL: Board Reveal Plans To Curb Hooliganism

The Chairman of the Division One League Board, Mr. Owoahene Acheampong has revealed that his outfit have put in place measures to curb hooliganism in Ghana’s second-tier league.

The 2015/2016 GN Bank Division One League  has been marred with continues acts of crowd violence with the recent incident involving fans of Tarkwa United and Karela FC on Sunday July 10.

Many lovers of the football have blamed the Ghana Football Association and for that matter, the Division One League Board for not doing enough to stop hooliganism.

But addressing the issues on an Accra based radio station, Class FM, Mr. Owuahene Acheampong, the DOLB boss minced no words in describing what his outfit are doing to deter supporters from engaging in violent conduct.

“We have put in place measures. Obviously, you know there are cameras all over the place and we are also trying to get those who infringe on the laws or beat up people prosecuted,” Mr Acheampong said.

Hooliganism has been on the rise in Ghana’s second tier league this season with several match venues closed down due to security reasons.

Away Team’s have  continues suffered physical attacks from home fans and referees who make certain decisions that do not sit well with clubs are mostly attacked and brutally injured.

These constant acts prompted the GN Bank to suspend its sponsorship of the league on June 1, 2016 informing the Division One League Board that until measures were put in place to forestall any such acts in future, the bank would have no choice but to pull out completely.

Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saani Daara has said that the Division One League Board will release fixtures for the season tomorrow (Thursday).

A date for the commencement of the league is scheduled for February 20, but the DOL Board has not released the fixtures for the season.

Clubs are getting frustrated for continued delay of the release of fixtures because it is affecting their preparations for the upcoming season.

But Saani Daara has assured the clubs that the fixtures will be made available tomorrow.

“The Division One League fixtures will be released tomorrow (Thursday),” the  former Choice FM journalist told Accra-based radio station, Happy FM.

“We understand their frustrations but I can assure them that the fixtures will be made available to them tomorrow.” He added.

GHALCA To Go To Congress Next Week.

Delegates of the Ghana League Clubs Association, the mother body of all league clubs in the country will meet on Tuesday February 16 to fix a date for April’s elections.

GHALCA will go to congress next week Tuesday, confirm date for which nomination forms will be made available to interested candidates and subsequently fix a date for April’s elections.

Incumbent chairman of the association, Alhaji Raji will have to wrestle the Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Gold, Cudjoe Fianoo, ex-Berekum Chelsea boss Nana Oduro Sarfo and his vice chairman, Isaac Koomsom for his office in the coming elections.

Cudjoe Fianoo, who lost out onthet Ghana football association’s Executive Committee membership last year has thrown his hat into the race.

And Nana Oduro Sarfo, tipped by football administrators to win the seat, told sportscrusader.com last week that his vision for the body is unquestionable and he wants delegates to vest their power in him to restructure the organisation.

GHALCA of late has lost its organizational powers and the opportunity to redress the problem solely lies in the hands of delegates.
