The race for Ghana League Clubs Association Chairmanship position is at its apex and candidates, have worked and are working hard to earn the thumbs of the delegates.

One hundred and ten (110) delegates will gather at the Accra sports stadium media centre on Thursday April 21 to elect a successor to Alhaji Ali Raji.

Four candidates, namely, Kudjoe Fianoo, Kofi Poku, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson and Nana Oduro Sarfo are contesting for the seat. But who will delegates throw their weight behind next week.

Sportscrusader.com has been closer to the association, spoken to some candidates and delegates ahead of the elections, and brings you what to expect during the elections.

NANA ODURO SARFO:

Nana Oduro Sarfo is in the highest echelon of football administration who is tagged as favourite to win the GHALCA Chairmanship position next week.

His message to delegates has been assimilated, but most of them are not convinced GHALCA under his leadership will be different from his predecessor.

If football have millions of passionate people, Nana Oduro Sarfo is one of them, if football boast of only one passionate person, then it is Nana Oduro Sarfo.

His thirst for football goes beyond that young man who fails to sleep after a first date with his dream girl.

The confidence with which he speaks about football, people in football and the need for Ghana football to grow is condescending.

From the stumpy homes in Kaneshie where he had his elementary education to Accra City Campus where he had his diploma, Nana Oduro Sarfo’s journey is one he will reminisce with nostalgia.

Born in April 27, 1962, Nana Oduro Sarfo had his elementary and Secondary education in Kaneshie, a suburb of Accra.

He attended Kaneshie Secondary Technical School before enrolling to the Accra City Campus to study Diploma in Land Violations.

Whilst seeking for knowledge in school, Nana Oduro Sarfo was also into football, played a vital role in the success of king Faisal Babes in the  early 2000’s.

In those years, King Faisal won the Coca-Cola Top 4 competition, played in CAF’s elite club football competition twice but were unable to reach the money zone.

He moved from King Faisal to Eleven Wise, and led the team to the premiership. He also served as an Accra representative of the Club and the Operations Manager.

A short journey across Europe came his way, and he took the opportunity to acquire more knowledge in the game with a trip to Turkey. He had an attachment with Ankara Giuchie before returning to Ghana in 2007.

Mr Oduro Sarfo joined Berekum Chelsea, served as the Chief Executive Officer of the club and was key to their success.

They won the Ghana League, played in the CAF Champions league, where they reached the money zone, placing third behind Al Ahly and TP Mazembe.

He was instrumental in the transfer of players like Gladson Awako, Solomon Asante and Kissi Boateng to the TP Mazembe.

Later in the year, he joined GHALCA – the mother body of all league clubs in Ghana.

He contested for the seat of the vice president in the association alongside Isaac Wilberforce Koomson and  Jones Abu Alhassan but he was beaten to it by Mr Koomson.

He is currently the ticketing chairman of GHALCA organised competitions.

My GHALCA Will Be Capital Intensive - Nana Oduro Sarfo

Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairmanship aspirant, Nana Oduro Sarfo has promised to build facilities that will generate income for the Association.

Nana Oduro Sarfo, the ticketing committee chairman of GHALCA organised competitions is in a race with Cudjoe Fianoo, Kofi Poku and Isaac Wilberforce Koomson to replace Alhaji Raji as leader of the Association.

And he has revealed his plans for the Association, known as the mother body of all league clubs in Ghana, if he is given that mandate.

“GHALCA needs to rise again and my administration will try to do capital intensive financial projects. GHALCA have a 20 acre land at Dabanyin near Kasoa in the central region. We are going to use that land to put structures that will earn GHALCA income,” Nana Oduro Sarfo, former Chief Executive Officer of Berekum Chelsea told sportscrusader.com.

“We are looking for investors either domestic or abroad. We will build a private partnership so we can have very good facilities for hosting teams and holding press conferences like they do at the Marseille Desailly’s complex. But ours will be so modern that national teams will come and train and that will bring a lot of money and the clubs will benefit,” he added.

Nana Oduro Sarfo added that he is intentionally linked and will take that opportunity to liaise with football administrators from other countries to share their knowledge with Ghanaian football administrators.

“We will also have training which will involve resource people from East Africa, South Africa etc to come and expose us to what is happening in football today,” he said.

GHALCA Committee To Release Verdict Tomorrow

Sportscrusader.com can confirm that the committee which vetted the GHALCA election candidates will release their verdict tomorrow (Thursday).

The three-member Committee which is led by Major Yaw Larson,  completed the vetting of the candidates for the various positions yesterday (Tuesday) and are set to release their report.

GHALCA, the mother body of all league clubs in Ghana, will go to congress on 21 April to elect next new executives.

Four candidates, Cudjoe Fianoo, Kofi Poku, Isaac Koomson and Nana Oduro Sarfo filed nomination forms to contest for the chairmanship position.

The vice chairmanship role in the association currently being occupied by Isaac Wilberforce Koomson have only one candidate – Alex Akumey, vice president of New Edubiase United Football Club.

Messrs Otuo Acheampong and Samuel Abuabre filed nominations for the Division One and Two representative on the association respectively, while George Offosuhene of WAFA and George Ansah of Ebusua Dwarfs filed for the position of Premier League representative.

George Amoako, vice chairman of the Premier League Board, is the only candidate for the position of treasurer.

The committee began its work last week after the close of the filing of nomination, and, will meet the Association tomorrow to come out with their verdict.

GHALCA Leadership Is Weak - Oduro Sarfo

The Ticketing Committee Chairman of the Ghana League Club’s Association (GHALCA) organised competitions, Nana Oduro Sarfo says the incumbent leadership are weak.

GHALCA, the mother body of all league clubs in Ghana goes to the polls every four years to elect new executives to stair affairs of the Association.

This year, the Association will go to the polls next month to elect new officers. It opened nominations for interested candidates last week, and Oduro Sarfo filed for the chairmanship position.

After filing his nomination on Monday, sportscrusader.com caught up with the former Berekum Chelsea Chief Executive Officer, to find out what the problems in GHALCA are and why he believes he is the right candidate to replace Alhaji Raji to solve those problems.

“The first problem at GHALCA is that we have weak leaders. We don’t have a strong leadership, they are very weak and if you have a weak leadership, everybody can say what he wants to say,” Nana Oduro Sarfo said.

“Every body knows what I have done and what I can do. I am coming into the scene to with a very strong team that’s going to regulate how information goes out from GHALCA.

“GHALCA is not viable, GHALCA is not interesting; no body wants to buy GHALCA. I am coming to raise GHALCA into an institution that will be attractive to everybody,” He stated.

Oduro Sarfo Picks Up GHALCA Nomination Form

The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) organised competitions ticketing chairman, Nana Oduro Sarfo has picked up a nomination form for the chairmanship position.

GHALCA, the mother body of all football league clubs in Ghana, will go to the polls on April 21 to elect new executives for the Association.

Nana Oduro Sarfo has thrown his cap into the race for the top-most position in the Association.

The former Berekum Chelsea Chief Executive Officer, who has promised to change the Association from it’s current state to a ‘vibrant’ body picked his nomination form on Tuesday (March 16)

He will vie for the Chairmanship position with Cudjoe Fianoo, the Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold, Isaac Koomson, incumbent Vice chairman of Association, Kofi Poku, a member GHALCA and CEO of King Solomon FC and Alhaji Raji, Chairman of the Association.

Alhaji Raji revealed his thirst to go for the position for the second time, but he is yet to pick his form.

The elections will be held on Thursday April 21, and candidates elected will be sworn into office on April 28.

Nomination form for all positions is GHc 100. 00 and the filing fee is GHc 500.00 for the Chairmanship position; GHc 400.00 for Vice Chairman and Treasurer with the rest of the positions going for GHc 300.00.

GHALCA To Open Nomination Tomorrow

The Ghana League Clubs Association, (GHALCA), will open nominations for interested candidates to pick forms for its upcoming elections on Thursday, March 10.

The Association will go to the polls on April 21 for elections, and forms will be made available to all interested candidates on Thursday.

Alhaji Ali Raji, incumbent chairman of the mother body of all league clubs in the country, has made public his candidature to run for a second term.

He is expected to wrestle with Nana Oduro Sarfo, GHALCA organised competitions ticketing chairman, Cudjoe Fianoo, Chief Executive Officer of the Ashanti Gold Sporting Club and former Administrative Manager of the Association, Isaac Koomson, vice chairman, and Kofi Poku, Division One League representative at the body for the topmost position.

The elections will be held on April 21 and winners of the various positions will be sworn into office on April 28.

GHALCA Got Bad Press Under Raji - Oduro Sarfo

GHALCA chairman hopeful, Nana Oduro Sarfo claim the association under Alhaji Raji received bad press reportage and that basically curtailed the body’s ability to gain sponsorship for its competitions.

Alhaji Raji took over the mantle from Emmanuel Odotei, and under his administration, members of the Executive Council of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) asked their chairman and treasurer to resign or face impeachment for breaching an important administrative procedure which is tantamount to financial impropriety.

There were reports of alleged misappropriation of $9,000 contracted as loan from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and demanded that it should be returned to the GHALCA chest, or the two men be prepared to face the law.

The association also failed to organised some of it’s Top-4 competitions which was inaugurated in 1993 but played it’s first competition in 2001, coupled with alleged stereotypical comments made by  the head of the association.

And Nana Oduro Sarfo believes the bad press the association had affected their brand.

“Every institution will like to have publicity and no institution will like to associate itself with a bad press. We do hear on radio how GHALCA’s money has been embezzled, how GHALCA has been fighting among themselves, how GHALCA has been organising competitions, and cannot fixed dates and go by the date,” He told sportscrusader.com

“So if you have such an organization and the organisation comes to you for sponsorship, you’ll not associate yourself with it because you don’t want a bad press to accompany your brand,” He added.

My GHALCA Administration Will Not Be Stagnant - Oduro Sarfo

Ghana League Clubs Association Chairman hopeful, Nana Oduro Sarfo gas described the association as stagnant body and has promised to make it a viable economic welfare body if given the opportunity.

GHALCA will go to congress on Tuesday February 16 to fixed a date for their elections scheduled for April and he believes he has the ideas to transform GHALCA from its current state into a body every entity will want to be associated with.

He believes GHALCA of today do not think outside the box and he will change that when he delegates give him the mandate.

“GHALCA is the mother of all league clubs in the country — Division two to the premier league and those at the forefront must always think outside the box to meet the demands of the association, but is like the current GHALCA administration is always in the box and cannot move out of the box,” the former Chief Executive Officer of Berekum Chelsea told sportscrusader.com.

“If I am given the nod, in my administration, I will not be a stagnant GHALCA,” he added.

Nana Oduro Sarfo intends to liaise with other West Africa neighbours with clubs bodies to form an association he believes will be bigger than CAF.

He also revealed that government owes the body huge sums of money and he will do all he can to avoid that in his administration. His first game as chairman of the association will be played at the Baba Yara sports stadium.

“I am thinking of playing my first president cup at the Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi.

“We have played three president cup matches at the Accra Sports Stadium and anytime we finish the government owes us. The government has always been with the excuse that if people don’t throng to the venue of the match, it will be bad for the government, but they will end up not paying us.

“Government owes us huge sums of money. We are owed about GHS 47,000  and it will not happen under my administration,” he stated.

Nana Oduro Sarfo will battle for the chairmanship position with Cudjoe Fianoo, Chief executive officer of Ashanti Gold, Alhaji Raji, incumbent Chairman of the association, Isaac Koomson, vice chairman of the association and Kofi Poku formerly of B.A United.

GHALCA To Go To Congress Next Week.

Delegates of the Ghana League Clubs Association, the mother body of all league clubs in the country will meet on Tuesday February 16 to fix a date for April’s elections. 

GHALCA will go to congress next week Tuesday, confirm date for which nomination forms will be made available to interested candidates and subsequently fix a date for April’s elections.

Incumbent chairman of the association, Alhaji Raji will have to wrestle the Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Gold, Cudjoe Fianoo, ex-Berekum Chelsea boss Nana Oduro Sarfo and his vice chairman, Isaac Koomsom for his office in the coming elections.

Cudjoe Fianoo, who lost out onthet Ghana football association’s Executive Committee membership last year has thrown his hat into the race.

And Nana Oduro Sarfo, tipped by football administrators to win the seat, told sportscrusader.com last week that his vision for the body is unquestionable and he wants delegates to vest their power in him to restructure the organisation.

GHALCA of late has lost its organizational powers and the opportunity to redress the problem solely lies in the hands of delegates.
