The Premier League Board (PLB) has told Sportscrusader.com that it expects nothing short of a more competitive and entertaining second round of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season.
The 2015/16 season has been arguably one of the best the domestic league has witnessed. Surprisingly, even without a headline sponsor, battling litigation as well as reported match-fixing allegations, plus other challenges, the organisers of the league, the PLB, have found reason to be expectant of an improvement on the reminder of the season.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the PLB, Tamimu Issa, in an interview with Sportscrusader.com, mentioned the body’s satisfaction after having to jump many hurdles to get the season underway.
“The biggest challenge for us (PLB) is to maintain the high standard of the first round and how to improve upon it as well. We are very expectant of witnessing an improved and competitive second round of the league,” he told Sportscrusader.com.
“As we approach the latter part of the league, stakes will be higher as those fighting for the league title will up their games and the relegation strugglers will fight as well in their quest to survive exiting the top flight of Ghana Football.”
The second round of the 2015/16 will continue, as match week 18 fixtures will be duly played on July 9 at the various league venues.
The Premier League Board (PLB) has directed all Premier League clubs to observe a minute silence in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the May 9 Stadium Disaster.
The one-minute silence will be observed before kick-off at all league centres for week 11 of the Premier League.
Th 15th anniversary of May 9 falls on Monday, a day after week 11 matches of the Ghana Premier League.
The PLB wishes to take this opportunity to remind all stakeholders of the need to continue to uphold tenets of the game to forestall the recurrence of events which led to the unfortunate event 15 years ago.

Ghana’s only remaining club in Africa’s inter club competition, Medeama SC, is calling on the Premier League Board (PLB) to postpone the Ghana Premier League Match Week 8 fixtures due to the Tarkwa based club’s Confederations Cup second leg tie with Al-Ahly Shendi on April 20.
The Mauves and Yellow will play host to the Sudanese side in a crucial return leg at the Sekondi stadium after playing out a goal-less draw in the first leg in Sudan.
Coincidentally, Ghana’s first mid-week fixtures of the 2015/2016 campaign are scheduled to take place on the same day – prompting officials to request for postponement amidst widespread fears the Premier League games will overshadow the side’s important continental game.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, the club’s deputy communication director, Patrick Akoto noted that he believes the Premier League games should be postponed insisting it is nothing new.
“I think the game should be postponed. We have done it for several clubs in the past and won’t be the first,” Akoto opined.
“We are the only team representing Ghana in Africa at the moment and therefore we need the collective support of everybody.
“Indeed postponing the league won’t be the first and not sure will be the last. I don’t think a deferment will spark any confusion or throw the calendar wide open.

Patrick Akoto further appealed to the Ghana FA and the Premier League Board to consider his club’s proposal.

Dubbed as the football president on the local scene, Baba Mahama has introduced himself to the football in a grand style. The talented Techiman City attacking midfielder cum striker, ushered in the new campaign with the opening goal for his side before following it up with a screamer in a painful 4-2 defeat away to Sekondi Hasaacas. The quick footed Mahama has exerted himself on opposition defenders both at home and away, highlighted by the reincarnation of TCFC from a 0-2 deficit to a place in the last 32 of the MTN FA Cup.

5.Bright Adjei-Aduana Stars(Forward)
Tipped for a bright future in the coming seasons, Bright Adjei has developed a nostalgic feeling for aesthetically driven goals, highlighted by the award winning goal away to Ashgold in week four of the GPL. The Nana Agyemang Badu Park crowd favourite shook off competition from FC Barcelona’s Luis Suarez for the CNN Goal of the week for his effort against the champions and that in itself sums up the depth of his talent.
6. Saddick Adams- Berekum Chelsea (forward)
Voted as the 2011 GPL champions player of the month on his return to the domestic terrain, the predatory instincts of the former Ashgold centre forward look as sharp as ever. Combining pace with physique and power from either foot, Adams has more than filled the void left over by the rampant Kofi Owusu. The former Ghana Youth International seems to have carved a niche for himself at the noisy coronation park.
7. Saddick Alhassan – Wa All Stars(Midfielder)
Dubbed as the Makelele of modern day football, the intelligent midfielder has been relegated to the background by his glamorous attacking colleagues, who are banging in goals on regular occasions. The anchorman has formed a near perfect partnership with Atta Kofi Yeboah at the heart of the pitch for the league leaders. With 521 minutes of league action to his name so far, Saddick can be compared to the legendary Xavi and or Andrei Pirlo due to his rare passing skills and recovery rate. He might not get you goals but will surely liberate your attackers and cushion up the defense.
8. Robben Gnane-Hearts of Oak(Defender)
As the first defender in the ranking, it tells you the depth of talent exhibited by the bulky Ivorian centre back in the resurging oak family. The stoutly built versatile defender has earned praises from opposition attackers for his intelllingent reading of the game with or without the ball. The Ivorian import continues to excel on the local scene and was blameless to prevent his side from shipping 3 goals at home to Wa All Stars.
9. Kwesi Donsu –Medeama SC (Midfielder)

The versatile midfielder continues to excel for the Mauves and Yellows and his recent inclination to dead balls suggest doom for opposition custodians. Midfield partner Malik Akowuah just missed out despite his eye for screamers from the dead balls.
10. Eric Kwabena Bekoe- Hasaacas(forward)
Winner of the GPL Golden shoe eight years ago, the former Kotoko attacking sensation seems to have held the years back. Four goals in six matches might not be jaw dropping from his caliber, but the variety and consistency from the ace forward still leaves many wondering. The nomadic centre forward returned to the local scene after an unsuccessful trip to Egypt but his current form could secure him an even better trip. A goal of the month contender against Berekum Chelsea earned the Do Boys a vital point in match day six.

11. Emmanuel Lomotey- Dreams FC (Forward)
Emmanuel Lommotey could not have asked for a better start to his premier league career at the “Theatre of Dreams” despite the lack of goals. The talented Dreams FC utility might be trailing Lawson Bekui on the goal king chart but the exploit of Lomotey has been tipped as one of the reason why the Premiership newbies are third on the log. CK Akumor’s side edged out WAFA SC to extend their unbeaten run in the league thanks to very late strike from Lawson Bekui(his third of the campaign).
Inter Allies forward Ropapa Mensah has cited lack of concentration in the playing staff for their slow start to the season.
The talented forward admitted to the dreadful start by the Tema based side, but played any catastrophic implications at the latter stages of the campaign.
Herbert Addo’s youthful side have dropped valuable points from winning position on numerous occasions and their star forward was quick to cite the lack of concentration in the final embers of their league matches.
Ropapa Mensah, who has enjoyed a personal breakthrough season with the “Eleven is to One” allayed fears haboured by fans of the Tema based side, amidst relegation threats in the opening matches of the season.
The Ghana Youth international rallied his team mates to end their eleven match winless run over the weekends when Bechem United come visiting if they are to get over that fear factor.
“There is nothing wrong with Inter Allies for now.
We have always scored goals in almost evey game but our main problem is lack of concentration in the final stages of our matches.
Lack of concentration has cost us a number of wins and points and we have identified that as a group of players”, Ropapa Mensah told sports crusader.
The lanky forward then ruled out missing their departed colleagues who left at the start of the current campaign.
“We are not missing our departed colleagues because we have very good players in camp as at now.
We are more than hungry for the three points in our next league match and it will be seen when we take to the field.
“Every body is focused to get our season up and running”, Mensah concluded.
Inter Allies remains winless in the opening six fixtures of the 2016 campaign and are currently out of the relegation zone just by goal difference.

The agile centre forward tasked the playing staff to put their disastrous start to the season behind them and make a real assault on the championship trophy at the end of the season.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko endured its worst start to a campaign in over four decades with two points from the opening four matches on the local scene.
Ben Acheampong, who graced the Baba Yara sports stadium in his days with the 24 times league champions however charged the newly assembled side to ink their names into the history books of Kotoko by overturning their dreadful start to the season with a convincing win over Sekondi Hasaacas on day five.

The Brong Ahafo based side have since won two of its opening home matches by a lone goal each while loosing two successive matches to Hasaacas and Liberty Professionals away from home.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko has rubbished media reports that management of the club gave head coach David Duncan three matches to salvage the club’s poor start or face the sack.
Kotoko has started the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League season poorly, losing two and draw two from the four games played so far.
Management is unhappy with the results recorded considering the massive recruitment the club undertook in the off-season and it paid off in pre-season.
The club held an ’emergency meeting’ on Monday to discuss the way forward to remedy the dismal season.
And reports emanated that Duncan was given 3-match ultimatum, but the club has denied the reports.
Communication Director of the club, Kweku Ahenkorah in an interview with Accra-based radio station, Happy FM said: “During the meeting, there was nothing like that has been said to the coach. He hasn’t been given any ultimatum.” He said.
“There’s no truth in that. Let it be known that management hasn’t given a directive of that nature to the coach.” Ahenkorah added.
Accra Hearts of Oak striker, Sam Yeboah says he is working hard towards finding the back of the net much often for his new club.
Yeboah opened Hearts’ account for the season when he scored the lone goal in the victory over New Edubiase United in Accra, but, has not scored again since.
He scored a blank for the Phobians in their last two other games against Medeama SC at Tarkwa and in Cape Coast against Ebusua Dwarfs.
However, Yeboah told the club’s official newspaper, the Hearts News that he is working hard in training to get in among the goals and believes they will come with the efforts he is putting in.
He is hoping the Accra Sports Stadium will serve as another happy haunting ground for him when Hearts plays Bechem United in a Match-Day Four Ghana Premier League encounter on Sunday.
“Goal scoring is the hallmark of every good striker, and, that is also what I am working on for the benefit of the club and my career,” he said.
“I was brought here to score goals for Accra Hearts of Oak, and, this is something I am committed to doing to make my employers and fans happy at all times,” he added.
“I cannot be satisfied with my performance if I am not in among the goals,” he said, adding that, “everywhere I have gone, I have scored goals and I want it to continue with Accra Hearts of Oak”.
Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder, Thomas Abbey has said the current crop of players of the club are fully committed to the ambitions of the club and are therefore willing to ‘die’ for it in achieving success.
The Phobians have made a promising start to the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL), winning two and drawing one of their opening three games of the season and are yet to concede.
And, Abbey has attributed this promising start to the hard work of the players saying “we are all committed to the good course of Accra Hearts of Oak”.
He told the clubs official newspaper, the Hearts News that: “Every day at training, we keep pushing each other to get even better and this has been a contributing factor towards the good start we have had this season”.
“We will not stop here and get carried away by this success, “he added. Abbey said: “We are focused on the task ahead of us and will take the games as they come”. “We play Bechem United on Sunday, and, that is our main agenda for the weekend”.
“Every player is committed to helping Accra Hearts of Oak achieve success this season and that is our main target for this campaign,” he said.
Accra Hearts of Oak will host Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in a Match-Day Four Ghana Premier League (GPL) programme and will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a win.
