GPL Match Rained Off

The outstanding Ghana Premier League (GPL) game between Medeama SC and Techiman City has been rained off for the second time in succession.

The fixture which was tentatively scheduled for week 12 of this year’s league was postponed due to Medeama’s participation on Africa inter-club football competition – CAF Confederation Cup.

The game was was rained off yesterday (Sunday) was rescheduled for today at the Tarkwa and Aboaso park, but the rains came down heavily this afternoon, forcing officials to call it off for the second time.

It has been rescheduled for Tuesday June 7.

Medeama To Know CAFCC Group Next Week

Ghana Premier League (GPL) side, Medeama SC will know their group for the money zone of the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup next week Tuesday.

The Ghanaians secured a ticket the group stage of the competition after edging out Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa on the away goals rule.

The South African champions had a two goal advantage, but they were undone by goals in either half from Malik Akowuah and Bernard Ofori at the Sekondi Stadium on Wednesday, as the Ghanaians booked a ticket to the last eight.

The draw will be held in Cairo on 24, and Medeama could face former champions TP Mazembe, Young Africans, Al Ahli Tripoli, MO Bejaia or Sportive Sahel.

Sundowns Sweat Over Medeama"s Away Goal

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane says Medeama’s away goal poses as a threat to his side chances of a group stage berth in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Ghanaian side scored an early goal through Eric Kwakwa, but failed to protect their early lead and conceded three goals in the last nine minutes of the game – losing 3-1 in the end.

The new Absa PSL champions arrived in  Ghana to honour the return fixture which is scheduled for Wednesday, and their gaffer is sweating over Medeama’s away goal.

“Medeama had a goal in South Africa and that is a great headache to us,” he said.

“That away goal is a great advantage for them. They will try to make good use of it in the second leg and that is a problem.

“If the first leg had ended without Medeama having a goal, it would have been different.

He concluded: “It is difficult but my boys are ready for the job.”

Match Fixing Scandal: Medeama Determined To Clear Their Name

Medeama Sporting Club is determined to clear their name after reports emerged that the club has been accused of attempts to rig matches.

Tom Strand’s agent, Prof  Darleen Nana Akwasi, in a radio interview alleged that officials of the Mauve and Yellow are involved in fixing Premier League games.

He claimed his client abandoned his coaching responsibilities due to the club’s posture.

Officials of the club, who spoke to Sportscrusader.com are livid about the allegations and have promised to clear their name with the ‘last drop’ of their blood.

Some say this move by Prof Narleen is an attempt to cover up for his clients ‘rascal’ behavior, and will match him ‘boot-for-boot’ to substantiate his allegations.

Medeama - Liberty Game Postponed Again

Ghana’s sole representative in African club competition, Medeama SC’s outstanding Ghana Premier League game against Liberty Professionals has been postponed again.

The Mauve-and-Yellow game was postponed due to their participation in the 2015/16 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup competition last weekend.

They returned from South Africa on Monday night after losing 3-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg tie.

But their outstanding game against Dansoman based, Liberty Professionals has been postponed indefinitely as the Premier League Board (PLB) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) find an appropriate time for the match-day 11 game to be observed.

With this development, Medeama will have ample time to prepare for the herculean task of over-turning the 3-1 first leg deficit when they host the newly crowned South African league champions on Wednesday at the Essipong Sports Stadium.

Coach Tom Strand has named his starting XI for Medeama ‘s CAF Confederation Cup second leg tie against Sudanese club, Al Ahly Shendi at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipong this afternoon.

Medeama Chief Upbeat About His Side’s Chances

Chief Executive Officer of Medeama SC, Mr. James Essilfie is opstimystic about his side’s chances ahaead of their CAF Confederations Cup Round of 16 second leg tie against Al-Alhly Shendi Wednesday.

According to him, his club cannot afford to exit the competition at their own back yard despite admitting that Shendi will pose a serious threat following a goal-less drawn game in the first leg in Sudan last week.

Speaking in an interview in the build up to the game, Mr. Essilfie was adamant, the Tarkwa based side will make Ghanaians proud by beating the Sudanese club to advance to the group stage of the competition.

“We have heard Al Ahly Shendy officials on some radio stations that they have come to Ghana to upset us but trust me we at Medeama SC are more than prepared for this game and surely we shall make it to the next round”, he said.

“The game is now an open one since the first leg didn’t produce any goal but Medeama SC can’t afford to disappoint Ghanaians on Wednesday”, Mr. Essilfie added.

The Medeama CEO further noted that, although there are midweek matches in the Ghana Premier League, he is confident the people of Sekondi Takoradi will troop to the stadium to give them the needed support which will spur them for victory on Wednesday.

Ghanaian outfit, Medeama SC are confident of producing a good result as they go into their CAF Confederation Cup tie this weekend in Sudan.

The FA Cup champions play Sudanese side Al Shendi in a second round first leg encounter on Sunday, with the return fixture scheduled to be played in Ghana after a fortnight.

Medeama arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s clash and are confident of returning to Ghana in a position to qualify to the next stage of the competition.

Club President, Moses Armah said on arrival that the boys are in confident mood and ready for the game on Sunday insisting that fear will not be a factor as they head into this game.

“We prepared very well in Ghana before coming here, and I can tell you that the boys are eager to perform on Sunday, President Armah said.

Asked about how he rates Al Shendi, he said they have very little knowledge of the Sudanese but will not be shaken as they go into this game.

Medeama SC advanced to this stage of the competition after eliminating Al Ittihad Tripoli of Libya on a 2-1 aggregate and are seeking to reach the group phase of the competition for the first time.

Abubakar Mahadi, a former Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC striker has tipped four clubs to challenge for the Ghana Premier League trophy this season.

According to the 22-year old forward who currently plays for Sông Lam Nghệ An F.C in the Vietnamese top flight league, his two former teams- Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC will be among the teams to vie for the title along with top of the table Wa All Stars and Struggling Asante Kotoko.

Speaking exclusively to SportsCrusader.com from his base in Vietnam, Mahadi indicated that he has followed the league with keen interest and is convinced the four teams will be the ones the beat this season.

“Hearts of Oak, Wa All Stars, Medeama and Kotoko. One of them will win the league”, the former Ghana Under-20 forward stated.

Speaking on the reasons for his pick, the youngster said that the season is still young and people should not rule out Asante Kotoko in particular.

“The league just started and if they [Kotoko] get their rhythm, that should be it. They will do very well”, Mahadi added.

Ghana Premier League side, Medeama SC has named a 28-man traveling party for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup tie against Sudanese side EL Ahly Shandy this weekend.

The Mauve-and-Yellow qualified to this round of the competition after defeating Libyan side, Al Ittihad of Tripoli and have been rewarded with a double header against Sudanese side, for a place in the last qualifying round to the group phase of the competition.

Tom Strand Committed To Medeama Course

Under Fire Medeama SC trainer, Tom Strand has reiterated his commitment to the job at the Tarkwa based side, despite several media reports linking him with a move away from the club.

According to the Swede Trainer, who has been absent on the Mauves and Yellows bench in recent times, he has no intentions of leaving the team this season.

“I will be with the team, I have been with them most of the week since they returned from Berekum,” Strand stated.

Media reports last week indicated that, management of Kumasi Asante Kokoto had secretly contacted Strand to take over from struggling coach Duncan but coach Strand denied those reports.

The 33-year old tactician further revealed that, although he misses home and his family, he does not want to leave the team until the current campaign is over.

Medeama will hope to get their season back on track when they take on Bechem United on Sunday at the Tarkwa T and A Park in a Ghana Premier League Match Week Six encounter.

Bechem United have made changes in their technical team with Seth Osei Wire an assistant, being made the head coach. He will hope to start his reign on a good note win a win in Sunday’s encounter.

Medeama SC hosts Bechem United at the Tarkwa and Aboso Park on Sunday and will be hopeful of recording their second home win of the season.

The MTN FA Cup champions have made an indifferent start to the season, winning just one of their opening five games and are already out of the knock out competition after losing to Liberty Professionals in the Round of 64.

They will therefore want to make amends in the league as that is the only route they can take to Africa next year unless they win the CAF Confederation Cup this year.

At home, they will be strong favourites to collect the three points after beating the same opposition 2-0 at home in this competition.

Bechem United are one of the poor travelers in the Ghanaian game and will need to up their game if they hope to return to the Brong Ahafo region with a point at least.

I Have Not Resigned From Medeama- Tom Strand

Under Fire Medeama SC trainer, Tom Strand has debunked rumours that he has handed in his resignation letter to the management of the Tarkwa based club, insisting that he’s happy at the club despite mounting reports linking him with a move to Kotoko.

The 33-year-old has in recent times not been spotted on the bench on Medeama and the Swede did not travel with the team to Berekum for the outstanding Premier League fixture against Chelsea on Wednesday.

The recent absence of the young trainer fueled speculations that he wants out of the club, with some reports indicating that officials of Asante Kotoko had held ‘secret talks with the European tactician.

Both Medeama and Asante Kotoko have publicly come out to deny the stories, but coach Tom Strand in an interview has confirmed that the reason for his absence while reaffirming his commitment to the club.

“I have not resigned from Medeama. I have not said anywhere that I have resigned,” he said

“I had malaria but now I’m getting better. I have no plans of leaving the club.I have a contract and plans to respect that till the end.

“Please people should disregard the so-called resignation reports.” Strand added.

Strand is expected to return to the dugout ahead of the side’s home game against Bechem United on Sunday.

Tom Strand Praises Home Based Players

Medeama SC expatriate trainer Tom Strand has described the home based Ghanaian players as “diamond bars that only needs polishing to appeal to the international market”.

The Helsingborg born Swedish tactician has praised the quality of players plying their trade on the local scene, whiles acknowledging the work done by the various coaches.

The much sought after trainer commended the effort by the various clubs in keeping their players in shape during the long absence of league matches.

Strand, who is reported to be on the wanted list of Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s should they part ways with David Duncan expressed his amazement at the calibre of players on the local scene.

“I will like to say Ghanaian players are like diamond cave. There are so many young talented players based here in Ghana.

“All they need is processing or polishing and after that they will become pure diamonds”, Tom told sports crusader exclusively.

The expatriate coach, who has been in Ghana for the past three seasons rated last season’s league higher than the current campaign.

“The league this year has not been that high in quality (as compared to last year).

This is because every one has done a great job on his players and team at large”,Tom Strand concluded.

The 35 year old Swedish trainer stormed the GPL three seasons ago with Bechem United before finally settling with Tarkwa based Medeama SC.

Ghanaian top flight side Medeama SC will play Sudanese side Al Ahly Shendi in the round of 16 of the 2015/2016 CAF Confederation Cup slated for next month.

The two times Ghanaian FA Cup winners secured passage after beating Libyan side Al Ittihad 2-1 on aggregate.

The Mauve and Yellows recorded an impressive 2-0 win over the North African side at home on Sunday to set up a date against the rich Sudanese side.

The West Africans will travel to Sudan for the first leg tie on the weekend of 8-10 April before the return leg takes place at the Sekondi stadium on April 17.

Al Shendi reached this stage after edging Congolese side Saint Eloi Lupopo 2-2 on the away goal rule.

Medeama SC Seek CAF Confederation Cup Passage

Ghanaian outfit Medeama SC will be looking to secure passage to the round of 16 in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday when they host Libyan giants Al Ittihad Tripoli at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipong.

The Yellow and Mauves went down 1-0 to their Libyan counterparts in the first leg encounter played in Tunis, Tunisia last Sunday in this round of 32 tie.

The MTN FA Cup champions will need to better that result on home soil to book a place in the next round of the competition and are hopeful of doing so.

Coach Tom Strand said after the first game that they are capable of overturning the result at home, and, will go into this game are perhaps the favourites taking into effect that narrow loss.

He concedes that the Libyans are a good side but not one they cannot defeat on Sunday. He will hope to count on the form of midfielders Malik Akowauh, Kwasi Donsu, Kwame Boahene, and Eric Kwakwa to dominate the game.

The striking duo of Dominic Eshun and Benjamin Bature will be counted on to provide the goals that could see them through to the next stage of the competition.

Medeama drew a bye in the preliminary round to reach this stage of the competition whilst the Libyans accounted for AS Sonidep of Niger 5-4 on aggregate to progress.

CAF Confed Cup: Medeama Lose 1-0 To Al-Ittihad

MedeamaSC will go into the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup in buoyant mood after losing by a lone goal to Libyan side, Al Ittihad of Tripoli in the first leg in Tunisia on Sunday.

A first half strike from El Bulki turned out to be the games only goal which has given the Ghanaian club hope of overturning the goal deficit in the second leg.

The home side, Al Ittihad started the game the brightest in the opening 10 minutes, with the Ghanaian club resulting to counter-attacks in an exciting game.

The North Africans, looked hungrier and their intent was clear after Hasuna went wide after just two minutes.

Striker Bush Naf was handful for the Medeama defenders, using his physical presence and experience to out-muscle defender, Daniel Amoah.

As the first half was drawing to a close in, centre-back Daniel Amoah fouled Bush Naf, and Sudanese referee Mutaz Khairalla pointed to the spot kick.

Midfielder El Bulki elected picked himself after the foul and brilliantly lost goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe who was completely beaten.

Medeama midfielder Malik Akowuah and goal keeper, Goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe put in Man-of-the-match performances to keep the scoreline at a respectable position and a possible task going into the return leg.

 

Medeama will host the return encounter in Ghana on March 20.

Felix Annan Admits Injury Frustrations

Kumasi Asante Kotoko crocked goalkeeper, Felix Annan has admitted he is frustrated, watching football from the sidelines, due to injury.

Annan, injured his knee in a collision with Boateng during Kotoko’s 0-2 defeat away to West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) in match week 1 of the 2015/16 Ghana premier league season.

The former U20 goalkeeper speaking in an interview with sportscrusader.com, as he recuperates from injury, said, “it’s really disappointing to be out injured, because football is my life, football is my joy and it’s what I love doing”.

“With the injury I can’t play football until I have fully recovered and that’s very frustrating, haven been given the nod to start in goal for the first game of the season.” He added.
