Ashgold Crash Out of Champions League

Ghana’s sole representative in the 2015/16 CAF champions league, Obuasi Ashantigold has crashed of the competition after losing by three goals to one to Algerian club Mouloudia Olympique de Bejaia in the return leg.

Ashgold went into the second leg tie with a lone goal advantage after defeating MO Bejaia at Obuasi a fortnight ago.

The ‘Aboakese’ club needed to ensure a slim defeat to qualify to the next round but when Yakubu scored an early own goal in 11th minute Coach Bashiru Hayford and his men knew things might turn sour.

Emmanuel Osei did equalised on 40th minute mark to give the miners hope of qualifying into the next stage and would still have been hopeful when Khadir added Bejaia’s in the 58th minute thanks to the away goal rule.

But Hamzaoui 62nd minute strike quashed every hope of making it into the next round as the miners exit the competition with a 2-3 aggregate.

MO Bejaia dominated possession with 55-percent to Ashgold’s 45 and with 10 shots on target out of 18 hit it’s not surprising to see the Algerian’s carry the day.
