Former Hearts of Oak winger Bernard Dong Bortey says Ghanaian soccer fans tend to forget easily, an action he stressed sometimes could be very frustrating as a player.
Bortey’ who signed for Swedish Division 2 club Ange IF says he wasn’t happy with certain comments made soon after he sealed the deal in August, most of which accessed him of age-cheating.
Whereas some said he was and ‘old man’ and couldn’t play any productive football anymore, others were also of the fact he deceived the Swedish Club into signing him.
All these comments did not go unnoticed by Bortey and in an interview with footballcrusader.com mentioned that he was very disappointed.
“To be honest, I was very disappointed with the comments from some Ghanaian football loving fans. It really affected my because the news got to my Club, but they were not bothered because they were happy and satisfied with my output”.
“Ghanaians football fans forget whatever you have done for them very easily, and that is one thing that makes footballers feel unloved. Because today they see a player who has similar attributes to what some of us have, they tend to forget all about us.”
“For now, that is all in the past. I am on holidays and looking forward to joining my team soon for preparation towards the next season”, he added.
Bortey’s recent move to Swedish Division 2 club Ange IF has generated many doubts about his age, with some fans claiming he is 24, though FIFA.com recognizes him as a 32-year-old.
