Asante Kotoko will now be facing Serbian club FK Jagodina in a friendly match on January 3 to mark their 80th anniversary.
This was after the match organizers, Pacific Football Ghana Limited failed in their bid to have Greek club Veria FC to travel down to Ghana to honour the match.
Pacific Football had originally scheduled to have Romanian club Petrolul to play the one-off friendly at the Baba Yara Stadium to climax the club’s activities for their 80th anniversary.
But Petrolul was eventually replaced with Veria FC.
The arrangements to have Veria FC travel to Ghana to play the match has now had to be abandoned due to the club’s tight fixtures.
The situation has led to an agreements to have Veria replaced by Serbian top fight side FK Jagodina.
“We’ve suffered some setbacks in trying to get this match played and the last one had to do with changing the opponent because of a last minute hitch,” CEO of Pacific Football Ghana Limited Eric Oppong Yeboah said.
“We contacted our agents in Serbia and we had Jagodina ready to come down.”
Jagodina will now thus fly into Ghana to play in the friendly match on January 3.
Kotoko have been looking to climax their 80th anniversary with a friendly match against a high profile European club.
There were mentions of a game against Seville and Atletico Madrid but all these plans had to be abandoned over lack of funds and the busy schedule of these European clubs.
Kotoko now turn to Serbian club Jagodina for anniversary match
