Chelsea want to make John Stones the first signing of the Antonio Conte regime – despite the criticism he has been receiving for his Everton performances.
The outgoing Premier League champions will make a fresh attempt to sign the talented 21-year-old after having a string of big-money bids – including one of £37million – rejected last summer.

Stones has been vilified in some quarters this season for his refusal to compromise his passing game during the talent-laden Toffees ‘ slump to just 11th in the Premier League with four games to go.
And he found himself in the firing line once again on Wednesday as his side were crushed 4-0 by Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

But Chelsea do not share that lack of faith in him as they remain convinced he is on course to become a high-class centre-back, with the right leadership.
Italy head coach Conte will take over at Stamford Bridge later this summer after the European Championship and is alongside the likes of Manchester City-bound Pep Guardiola and ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho as a huge admirer of Stones’ abilities.
