Anthony Commey, head coach of New Edubiase United FC, says beating Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is nothing special.
The MTN FA Cup winner secured his third victory in seven games over the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, a win football pundits described as ‘special’.
But according to him, winning at the famous Porcupine cathedral is normal.
“I’m happy we won. [Prior to this game] We were not placed well on the league table, so to get these points here, I am very much happy,” Commey said after the match.
New Edubiase United were tactically resolute, and could have won by a wider margin had they taken the chances that came their way in the game.
Mr. Commey praised the output of his players, claiming they’ve been good all season, but are profligate in front of goal.
“The boys have been playing well all season. I will be lying to myself if I say they don’t play well. They play very well just that there are certain chances we don’t bury them.” he noted.
New Edubiase United have been a nemesis to Asante Kotoko since making their premier league appearance in the 2011/12 season.
He also revealed their approach.
“Each and every team has a boogie side that disturbs them. Whenever we meet Kotoko in Kumasi, it is in their minds that things could happen. There is time for everything. We’ve played with Kotoko and we have been able to pick our three points.
“That is, the plan we came in with, play the ball in defence and play them on the counter break. But it’s true Kotoko did more attacking than us. They created chances they could have scored but I think our defensive network was okay to prevent them.”
