With defeat to Kumasi Asante Kotoko by New Edubiase United in Saturday’s live telecast match of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), attention turns to Sunday’s games nationwide as teams seek to gain advantage.
These Match-Day Nine fixtures promises to be one of the most keenly contested this season and it could see changes at the top and bottom of the table as teams seek to press home any little advantage.
Obuasi: AshantiGold SC V Accra Hearts of Oak
Without doubt, the biggest attraction of Sunday’s fixtures will be the game at the Len Clay Sports Stadium where AshantiGold will host Accra Hearts of Oak in a game crucial to both sides.
Prior to their midweek success over New Edubiase United, the Miners had not won since the opening day of the season, and, pressure was mounting on head coach Bashir Hayford especially so as they were also bundled out of the CAF Champions League at the first hurdle.
Second on the table Hearts, have gone four games without a win in all competitions, with their last victory coming against Inter Allies at Tema when they came from two goals down to win 3-2.
Nonetheless, they still remain the only team in the league yet to lose an away game after four games, and, this would spur them on as they go in search of their third away win of the campaign to keep pressure of the first placed team.
Wa: All Stars v Inter Allies
League leaders Wa All Stars lost their unbeaten run to the season at Bechem in midweek and will seek to get back to winning ways when they host Inter Allies at the Wa Park.
They have won three of their four home games and drawn the other. All Stars have scored five goals at Wa and have yet to concede after 360 minutes of football at home this season.
Inter Allies are yet to win an away game this campaign having lost two and drawn the other of the three games they have played. They have an outstanding away game at Tarkwa against Medeama SC.
Berekum: Berekum Chelsea v Dreams FC
Berekum Chelsea has won all their four home games, and, they will seek to make it five out of five when they host Dreams FC at the Golden City Park.
They are fifth with 13 points and will look to climb up the latter by getting the better of the league debutants who are third with 14 points.
Dormaa: Aduana Stars v Medeama SC
Aduana Stars plays Medeama SC at the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park, Dormaa in a game they will go into feeling high on confidence after their moral boosting 4-0 demolition of Sekondi Hasaacas in midweek.
Medeama were engaged in continental action at the same time as they overcame Sudanese side Al Ahly Shendi to make it to the last qualifying round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Techiman: Techiman City v Bechem United
The latest version of the Brong Ahafo regional derbies will be fought at the Nana Ameyaw Park, Techiman where home team Techiman City will host Bechem United.
City has made an impressive start to this campaign in their debut season as they sit seventh on the log with 11 points. They are also unbeaten at home and will make life difficult for a Bechem United side that is 11th on the table with 10 points.
Essipong: Sekondi Hasaacas v Liberty Professionals
Sekondi Hasaacas after their heavy loss at Dormaa, return to the Sekondi Stadium at Essipong to play Liberty Professionals in a game they will look to win to ease some of the pressure on their shoulders.
Liberty who are fourth with 13 points, were impressive in beating Chelsea 3-1 in midweek, but, could find Hasaacas difficult to crack at their favourite home base.
Sogakope: WAFA v Ebusua Dwarfs
West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) (sixth with 11 points), will play Ebusua Dwarfs at the Red Bull Arena, Sogakope where they have been rootless this season.
They have won three of their four games there, and will look to add Dwarfs to their list of victims on this afternoon.
