Know Your GHALCA Chairmanship Candidate: Isaac Wilberforce Koomson

A three-member committee, chaired by Major Yaw Larson (rtd) certified four candidates who filed their nomination for the chairmanship position at at the Ghana League Club’s Association – GHALCA.


Th four candidates have contributed their quota to the development of Ghana football due to their love for the game.


Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, when cut open, his blood is spherical-ball shape.


Born in Mando in the Central  region of Ghana on 30 April 1972, Isaac Koomson has spent almost his life in sports, either as an administrator or an athlete. During his primary and secondary school days in his hometown Ajumako Mando.


Mr Koomson played football and did athletics from Primary to Form Five before proceeding to Apam for his Sixth Form education.


He was enlisted in the Ghana Police Service in 1996. Meanwhile, during his early years in the Civil Service, Mr Koomson was also member of the Board of Directors of K Dom FC in his hometown.


He went into full time football administration in 2001, and have had stints with Swedru All Blacks which metamorphosed to Gamba All Blacks.


Working hand as the vice chairman to George Afriyie, who was the chairman and bank roller of the club, Gamba All Blacks were promoted to the top flight of Ghana football.


Internal problems erupted and he moved on and furthered his education to the tertiary level and obtained a degree in BSC Tourism and Marketing 2007 at the University of Cape Coast.


He joined Great Olympics as Operations Manager under George Afriyie who was Chairman, but they both left the club due to internal bickering.


Isaac Koomson filed his nomination for the vice chairmanship position at GHALCA on the ticket of Starke FC in the 2012 elections.


He  swept off a stiff competition from big wigs like Jones Abu Alhassan and Nana Oduro Sarfo.


He is currently a Director of Starke FC, whilst serving as management and Accra representative of Aduana Stars. He is also the vice chairman of the Safety and Security Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
