Ghanaian triathletes were not able to participate in the 2016 Sharm El Sheikh ATU Triathlon African Championships and Pan Arab Championships, that was held in Egypt last weekend.
The event was aimed at building up triathletes for the upcoming Olympics with three Ghanaian athletes; Rawoof Zakaria, Mark Ofosu Twum and Bismark Mensah, scheduled to participate for the first time in their careers.
They had to pull out due to fear of terrorist attacks and hijacking of a plane in Egypt last week.
The General Secretary of the Ghana Triathlon Federation, Mr Bawah Fuseni told sportscrusader.com that “we had all things put in place for the trip to the Sanei area, but the plane hijacking at that time prompted us to take precautions, so we finally took the decision to pull out”.
The events also saw many countries pull of the competition for the same reason.
