Mauritius Fail To Close In On Ghana

Rwanda hammered Mauritius 5-0 on Tuesday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali to go second of Group H.

A brace from Ernest Sugira and one each from teenage sensation Dominique Savio Nshuti, right back Fitina Ombalenga and Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza was enough for the Amavubi to avenge a painful 1-0 loss in the reverse encounter last Saturday in Belle Vue.

The host started strongly and pressing, and nearly broke the deadlock after 52 seconds, when Ombalenga crossed to Sugira, who failed to beat Mauritius goalie Jean Louis Kevin Obrian. The dominance saw them score three in the first half and adding two more after the break.

Ghana leads the pack with 10 points from four games, with Rwanda and Mauritius in that order on six points each. Mozambique sits at the depth of the standings with just a point.

“We are happy we won. We are looking forward to the next game against Mozambique. It is not the end and we are back into contention.

“We have to work harder than the previous matches,” said Rwanda captain Haruna Niyonzima.

The next round of qualifiers will see Mauritius came face to face with Black stars of Ghana  whilst Mozambique will face Rwanda in the other fixture which is scheduled to take place on the June, 5, 2016.
