Las Palmas Coach Furious Over Wakaso Injury

Head Coach of Spanish Laliga side Las Palmas, Quique Setien has registered his displeasure with the Ghana Football Association’s decision to use midfielder Mubarak Wakaso in Ghana’s 3-1 win over Mozambique in the AFCON 2017 qualifier last Thursday despite the player not being fully fit.

Prior to his call up for the international assignment, Wakaso, 25 had picked up an injury while playing for his club and he was scheduled to stay out of action for four weeks.

But the powerful midfielder returned to training after just two weeks and was subsequently invited by Ghana Coach Avram Grant for the Black Stars double header against the OS Mambas of Mozambique.

The former Espanyol man was handed a starting berth in the game at the Accra Sports Stadium last Thursday but failed to complete the full duration after he picked up an injury in the second half.

The injury also forced him to miss the return leg of the encounter in Maputo and his club coach Quique Setien has registered his displeasure about the situation.

“It is bad that Wakaso did not fully recover in time and was rushed into action”, The Las Palmas Trainer was quoted to have said.

He added that “Now that he is injured again and that is not good at all. The frustrating part is that he has been out for a long time’’

Satien further noted that Las Palmas will reconsider their decisions to allow players returning from injury to leave for national duty in future.

“In future we have to consider call-ups if we deem the player is not fit or has a risk of aggravating the injury.” He concluded

Wakaso has played 17 times for Las Palmas since joining them on loan at the beginning of the season
