Ibrahim Tanko Eying Black Stars Coaching Job

Former Ghanaian international, Ibrahim Tanko has declared his intention of becoming the coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Tanko, who is currently the assistant coach of the indomitable Lions of Cameroon, has widely been tipped to become Black Stars coach in future but the former Borussia Dortmund attacker has always remained coy on the speculations that linked him to the job in the past.

The 38-year old has gained over 8 years of experience in football management at both club and national team levels as a scout and trainer since his retirement from active football in 2007.

He has worked as the assistant coach of German Bundesliga outfits SC Freiburg and FC Cologne as well as Japanese League club Urawa Red Diamonds.

Prior to his appointment as the assistant coach of Cameroon in 2013, Ibrahim Tanko was the head scout for the Ghana Football Association.

In a week that Black Stars trainer Avram Grant has come under intense criticism over derogatory comments he made following Ghana’s 3-1 win over Mozambique in an AFCON 2017 Qualifier last Thursday, Ibrahim Tanko has piled more pressure on the Israeli by declaring his intention to take charge of the Black Stars.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, the former Freiburg striker said, “It is everyone’s dream to coach his country, I have been in coaching for eight years now. I was in Japan for two years, I was in Cologne, I was in Cameroon for two and half years, I still have an issue with Cameroon and when I am done I will know what to do”.

Cameroon strengthened their chances of qualifying for the next AFCON when they held South Africa in a 0-0 game last night in Durban with two matches remaining.
