Barca Midfielder Confirms Participation In Vodafone Unity Match

The 2016 Vodafone Unity Match, powered and organised by event powerhouse, Primeval Media Ghana Limited, has received another boost with Cameroon international, Alexandre Dimitri Song Billing confirming his participation.


The event is meant to promote peace and unity in Ghana as the nation goes to the polls in November.




Former Ghana Black Stars midfielder, Stephen Appiah, who was, at the official launch of the Unity Match 2016 in January, unveiled as the Peace Ambassador, will lead a World XI side to play Kotoko and the Black Stars in Kumasi and Accra on June 8 and 11 respectively.



Alex Song plays as a central or defensive midfielder for English club, West Ham United, on loan from FC Barcelona, and can also play as a central defender.


Song, 28, signed for Arsenal in a £1 million deal in June 2006 from where he signed for FC Barcelona. The blonde afro-haired midfielder made his Premiership debut in Arsenal’s 2–0 win against Everton on 19 September 2005 as a substitute.



He played in several UEFA Champions League matches, made several Premiership starts and is a regular for the Cameroonian national team.


Alex, who stands at 6ft 1in, is the nephew of Cameroon great, Rigobert Song, with his confirmation, now joins an increasing number of world football icons including Manchester united legends, Dwight Yorke and Louis Saha, ex-England internationals, Sol Campbell, Emile Heskey, Dutch greats,Patrick Kluivert and George Boateng, Sunderland forward Jermain Defoe, Ex-Chelsea player, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Jay Jay Okocha, Sulley Muntari, Yakubu Ayigbeni, Nwanko Kanu, Micheal Essien, Emmanuel Eboue, etc.
