The 42 year-old national 5000m record was on Saturday smashed by Sampson Laari with a time of 14:02.22 at the National Athletics Circuit in Takoradi, Western Region.
The previous record was held by Robert Hackman with a time of 14.09.0 minutes in the 1974 National Athletics Open.
But Laari has to work had if he wants to break the African record which is held by Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia with a time of 12:37.35.
Series of national circuit is expected to follow all around the country as various athlete are preparing for second national athletics open later.
