GN Bank DOL: Bibiani Gold Stars In Hot Waters

Report reaching SportsCrusader.com indicate that GN Bank Division One League side Bibiani Gold Stars have been handed a 10-match home ban and fined ghc15,000 for their fans bevahiour on match week 3.

The decision was reached following a physical assault by the behavior of the fans of the Bibiani based club on players and officials of Elmina Sharks as well as match officials, which left several players injured with some hospitalized.

Video footage from the match showed fans of Gold Stars forced their way into the inner perimeter and attacked Elmina Sharks winger Benjamin Tweneboah who was about to take a corner kick. They also attacked the assistant referee at that end.

Sharks were one goal up at that point and the referee as indicated in his match report after the game, had to take a penalty to make sure Gold Stars equalize for reasons of his safety.

But the referee’s decision did not prevent the fans from continuing the attacks after the game.

The continues act of hooliganism in Ghana’s second tier league has prompted the official broadcaster partner, First Digital TV- whose personnel were attacked and held hostage by Gold Stars fans, to suspend their coverage of the league.
