If off the pitch issues could win any trophy in football, Kumasi Asante Kotoko would have been champions of this year’s league even before the first round of the season.
The Porcupine Warriors have been abysmal this season, and are lying bottom of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL), their worst ever start to a season after six games.
They will line up against Liberty Professionals who annihilated defending league champions, AshantiGold Sporting Club 5-1 last Sunday.
TALKING POINTS:
Asante Kotoko after suffering a 1-0 loss to Aduana Stars last week, of the club saw management ask David Duncan to step aside as coach until further notice following a series of poor results.
Michael Osei will be the man at the dug out for Sunday’s game against Liberty.
The Porcupine Warriors have lost three, drawn two and won one of their first six games this season, and the current situation compelled Life Patron of the club, the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II to pay the team a surprise visit on Tuesday during their training session.
Otumfour urged the team to beat Liberty and promised them a new bus should they win.
KOTOKO TEAM NEWS
Asante Kotoko will rely on Obed Owusu, Dauda Mohammed and Kwame Boateng to lead the attack.
Midfield anchor-man Theophilus Nyame who missed the Warriors defeat against Aduana trained on Wednesday and Thursday, but is unclear whether he will feature.
Eric Donkor could make the team having sat on the bench last weekend. The game comes too early for Felix Annan who was injured in the opening league game against WAFA.
LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS
Liberty Professionals have been phenomenal this season, winning all their home league games, but is yet to record a win away from home.
They’ve lost two and drawn one of their three away matches. Latif Blessing continue to be a blessing for Liberty since making his league debut a couple of seasons ago.
He’s been outstanding for the Dansoman-based club this year, scoring four of their nine goals.
HEAD TO HEAD
Kotoko have a superior record against Liberty Professionals. They have won 19 of their 30 league games, lost 6 and drawn 5 games.
Liberty have won once, drawn two and lost 14 of games to Kotoko away from their home venue.
However, last season, the scientific soccer lads defeated the Porcupine Warriors 1-0 in a Match-Day 12 encounter in Kumasi.
This is the first time these sides are facing each other in a Match-Day Seven encounter of the GPL.
