Football"s longest Serving Manager Resigns

Coach of Northern Ireland Portadown boss Ronnie McFall has quit after more than 29 years in charge of his hometown club after a surprise defeat to Lurgan Celtic in a Cup match.

He goes into the record books as European football’s longest-serving manager at the age of 69,therefore surpasses Sir Alex Ferguson 27 reign as he resigned at Manchester United in 2013.

Mcfall was appointed Portadown boss in 1986 six weeks after Ferguson arrived at Old Trafford, having won four league titles among over 20 trophies during his reign.

The former Portadown, Dundee United and Glentoran defender led the club to their first ever league title in 1990, with further successes coming in 1991, 1996 and 2002.

Kieran Harding who is Macfall assistant coach is also leaving the club after a difficult campaign which has seen the Ports slip to seventh in the league table.

Portadown have not yet found a replacement for McFall after his resignation on Saturday.
