Invest In Your Clubs - Prof. Mintah

Former head coach of Ghana premier league side Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah has called on the owners of the premier league clubs to invest into their business (management of the clubs).

Most Ghanaian club owners have been criticised for their poor managerial skills and this has had negative effects – financially, brand wise on the club and has contributed to the fans preferring to stay behind their television screens than visit the stadium.

Prof who doubles as a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast has asked clubs to learn from the shareholder structure being implored by Accra Hearts of Oak when the 20-times Ghana premier league side floated shares some years ago.

He said, “Ghanaian club owners do not invest money into their clubs and that negative act has to change as that is not how to run a footballing business. The structure currently being implored by Hearts is the ideal structure – float shares where individuals bring resources and money.”

“Most of the clubs get relegated as a result of financial inadequacy because money isn’t available to augment the squad when the transfer window is opened. This tends to weaken the clubs as they lose players to foreign lucrative deals just as the TP Mazembe success story initially testifies to,” he added.
