Former FIFA women referee, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo has refuted claims she’s responsible for the trophy that escaped the grips of Obuasi Ashantigold in 2010.
In the 2010/11 season, Ashgold lost the premier league crown to Aduana Stars after conceding an equalising goal at home to Berekum Chelsea.
Assistant referee flagged to confirm a goal-bound shot saw the ball cross the line and duly centre referee Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo whistled for a goal but Duncan then as Ashgold boss and his team got furious claiming the ball had not crossed the line.
Ex-Ashgold gaffer, David Duncan yesterday during his press conference before hosting his former side as manager of Kotoko in a mid-week Ghana premier league clash alleged Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo had called to apologise for allowing a goal stand after the ball didn’t cross the line.
But in a swift response the former Ghana forward, Mercy has vehemently denied and replied Duncan to resist from throwing dust into the public eye with allegations.
She said, “let’s learn and educate ourselves I didn’t deliberately deny Ashgold the title. Duncan is a brother and he shouldn’t do this. The issue at happened some 4 or so years ago and we’ve never spoken about it.”
