The Minister of Youth and Sports (MOYS) Honorable Nii Lante Vanderpuye has expressed his disappointment at the Black Bombers inability to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games at the Africa Olympic qualifiers which ended last weekend.
Speaking to the press at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hon. Vanderpuye was optimistic that in spite of the national boxing’s team disheartening performance.
He said” “I think Ghanaians are all disappointed, but they have another opportunity to go to Azerbaijan for another qualification,”
Now the Black Bombers face the prospect of observing the Olympics from afar for the first time in 12 years.
Nonetheless their failure in Yaounde, presents them another opportunity at the Amateur Olympic Boxing (AOB) Final World Olympic Qualification tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.
“If they go to Azerbaijan and do well, fine, but before they will go we have to be convinced about the fact that their performance in Yaounde wasn’t because they are not good or the team wasn’t prepared well,” Hon Vanderpuye continued. “For whichever reason, they didn’t qualify.
The Honorable Minister also further elaborated the need for the bombers to convince the people of Ghana, with adequate measures that will facilitate a much improve performance in Azerbaijan.
