Match Report: Liberty Thump Ashgold in Dansoman

Liberty Professionals continue with their impressive home record by thrashing defending Ghana Premier League Champions Ashgold 5-1 at the Carle Reindoff Park on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Latif Blessing, Ebo Mends, Simon Zibo and Bernard Arthur ensured that Bashir George Lamptey’s men had too much for the Miners.

The home side started the game on an impressive note piling pressure on Bashir Hayford’s men from the blast of the whistle.

Liberty’s early pressure looked to have paid off just 2minutes into the contest when Benjamin Eshun tapped in an Ebo Mends through ball, only for his goal to be disallowed for an offside.

Ebo Mends then scored two minutes later with a great strike from the left edge of the penalty box following a nice solo run to put the Scientific Soccer lads in front.

Highly rated Latif Blessing doubled the home side’s lead on 7 minutes following a mixed up from the Ashgold defense.

Defender Godfred Rockson misjudged what seems to be a harmless ball to allow Blessing put the ball pass the on rushing Robert Dabuo.

Ashgold found their rhythm after the second goal and managed to create a few scoring opportunities.

Midfielder Shafiu Mumuni looked to have won a penalty for Ashgold but he was adjudged to have dived and was booked accordingly.

Emmanuel Osei Baffour them got what was arguably Adhgold’s best side of the first half but he directed the ball into the waiting arms of goalkeeper Fatau Alhassan.

The first half ended with Liberty leading 2-0.

The second half of the game started in similar fashion to the first half but this time it was Ashgold who were the quickest to come out from their blocks.

The miners got a goal just 3 minutes after the break through midfielder Anthony Yarful.

That eventually proved to be their only goal of the game.

Latif Blessing capitalized on Ashgold failure to clear a corner to slot home his second goal of the game from close range on 55 minute to put Liberty 3-1 up.

Both sides continued to create chances after the goal but it was the home side who increased the tally in the 69th minute of the encounter.

Right back Simon Ziba lashed onto a Daniel Kodie through ball to put the ball past a helpless Robert Dabuo.

Bernard Arthur then completed the scoring for the Dansoman based side after beating an offside trap to go round past Dabuo for the 5th goal.

The match ended 5-1 in favour of Liberty leaving many to wonder whether Ashgold are capable of defending their title.
