Tim Fosu-Mensah’s has earned the praise of his Manchester United team for his influential display in the clubs recent 1-0 win over Everton in the English Premiership.
The Dutchman of Ghanaian origin replaced Argentine Marcos Rojo at half-time in last Sunday’s game to make his fifth first-team appearance this season.
The 18-year-old started the second half at right-back but finished it at centre-back and made key contributions at both ends of the pitch, charging forward to cross for Anthony Martial’s winner before making a vital late clearance from Seamus Coleman’s cross to preserve United’s lead.
Former United Star, Quinton Fortune said: “The clearance is obviously brilliant but what I like here is he’s always looking where his man is. Some defenders tend to just focus on the ball but Tim has that awareness.
“He had a great impact after he came on and him being positive led to the goal. But he’s done well in every game he’s played for us. I’d like to see him get a starting position but that’s up to the manager.”
Coach Louis van Gaal was also impressed by Fosu-Mensah’s performance, saying after the game: “He did fantastically. I saw there was some space on the right side and I told Timothy he had to take advantage of that.
“When the player does that, it’s a bit of luck for the manager, so every credit is for Timothy and not for the manager.”
