Osei Palmer Calls on Clubs to Insure Their Players

In the wake of Jackson Owusu’s injury at a Sunday Special in Kumasi, Executive Committee Member of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Wilfred Osei Palmer has called on Ghanaian football Clubs to insure their players.

According to Osei Palmer, that will ensure that the clubs do not make losses in events that a player, in whom they’ve invested suffers an injury whether on club duty or by accident.

Asante Kotoko’s Jackson Owusu on Sunday broke his leg while playing in a Sunday Special football match and as a result, he has been ruled out action for the rest of the season.

Speaking on an Accra based Happy FM, Mr. Osei Palmer, who is the Club President of GN Bank Division One League side Tema Youth FC says it’s about time clubs in Ghana start insuring their players against such eventualities.

Palmer noted that, there are insurances that cover injuries to players in case they should happen but admitted that clubs in the country don’t take those issues seriously.

He further stated that investing in a football player is a long term investment and if the player should go on to record a serious injury especially if not on club duty; the club only makes losses on that long term investment during the periods which the player sits out.
