It is another weekend of football actions across the major leagues across the world and sportscrusader.com previews Ghanaian players who will be involved in games with their various clubs.
England
SWANSEA vs SOUTHAMPTON
Swansea City’s free fall from the second place they occupied during the start of the season looks like a forgone conclusion as the Swans are currently on a two-game win-less streak and will hope Ghanaian forward, Andre Ayew finds his scoring boots sooner to help their course of survival in the league. In-form Southampton visit the Liberty stadium on fine form with 4-wins and a draw in their last 5-matches knowing a win will keep hopes of fishing in the top 4 slightly alive.
ASTON VILLA vs LIVERPOOL
Aston Villa host Liverpool without suspended, Jordan Ayew who serves his last game since he was sent off against West Ham united for a needless foul. The mdlands club have not won any of their last 5-games with just two draws and three defeats making them underdogs in the clash against 18-times premier league champions, Liverpool.
The Merseysiders go into the game after losing their FA cup replay game against West Ham united and drawing two all at home to Sunderland will mean the Reds can’t afford to lose this game if they want European action next season.
CHELSEA vs NEWCASTLE
Ghanaian left-back, Baba Rahman will hope the game against Newcastle will allow him some game time for Chelsea as he is yet to appear in a premier league game under interim-manager, Guus Hiddink. The 2104/15 english premier league champions have drawn their last two games and will hope to find some consistency with results under the Dutch boss though Chelsea are yet to lose with him in-charge this season.
Italy
CARPI vs AS ROMA
Carpi have won just one of their last 5-games and will look to quickly put behind a 1-0 defeat away to league leader’s Napoli in the last Serie A outing. The pairs last meeting was as 5-1 victory for Roma but Carpi will prevent a repeat of that humiliation whilst Ghanaian midfielder, Isaac Cofie hopes to have convinced manager, Fabrizio Castori at training this week for a starting berth.
EMPOLI vs FROSINONE
Empoli who lie in 9th place will host Frosinone who lost at home to Juventus in their last Serie A game. Frosinone have lost their last three league games away from home and Ghanaian midfielder, Yussif Rahman Chibsah who missed the Juventus defeat will hope to be back in contention for a league start.
JUVENTUS vs NAPOLI
The in-form old ladies of Italian football, Juventus will play first place Napoli in a clash that will decide who finishes the weekend in first place and with the league heading to end each point will matter now. Kwadwo Asamoah who has been out of action for the past three-weeks but has returned training will hope to be part of manager, Massimo Allegri’s plan for the top of the table clash.
CHIEVO vs SASSUOLO
Chievo Verona will look to kick-off their season after winning their last outing against Torino by 1-goal to 2 when they host Sassuolo at the Marcantonio Bentegodi stadium. Chievo before the Torino victory have been win-less in 4-games and know a victory will keep them just 1-point behind the visitors.
UDINESE vs BOLOGNA
Both 14th placed, Udinese and 11th placed, Bologna head into this clash with just three points between the pair and after drawing their last games 1-all respectively this game will be very valuable to either side with only 14-games remaining to end the season.
Agyemang Badu who played the full duration of the 1-1 draw game against AC Milan will look to retain his place in the starting line-up as he squares off another Ghanaian international, Godfred Donsah who played 90-minutes for Bologna against Fiorentina.
France
NANTES vs LORIENT
Abdul Majeed Waris who missed Lorient’s France Coupe de France quarter-final clash against Sarre Union due to insubordination shown in the game against Montpellier after he was substituted immediately at half-time but will pray he has been forgiven by manager, Sylvan Ripoll when he names his squad for the clash against 7th placed, Nantes.
Other Leagues
Greece
Michael Essien will hope to continue his fine vein of form for club side, Panathinaikos as they face 12th place, Giannina in their Sunday clash in the Greece Super league. Like Panathinaikos, Giannina have lost their last two games will need to start picking up maximum points to salvage their champions league and league status respectively.
