Techiman City will play in the 2016 Ghana Premier League despite the Ghana FA Ethics Committee ruling that the club should be demoted to the third tier of Ghana football — Division two.
On Wednesday February 3, the Ghana Football Association’s Ethics Committee ruled that the Techiman-based club should be demoted to the Division Two for alleged match-fixing.
It is understood the club filed an appeal and a stay of execution, but the adjudicating body is yet to respond to their request publicly.
With questions continually asked as to whether the country will witness a sixteen team league or Techiman City will not be demoted leaving only fifteen teams, the FA announced that their arrangements for the league has not changed.
And on Wednesday at the launch of the 2016, the vice president of the Ghana Football Association who chaired the launch announced that the FA respect its subcommittee mandated to attend to cases before the Ghana FA ruling, but the number of teams for the season remains unchanged.
Techiman City will host Berekum Chelsea on Match Week One of the new season on Sunday in Techiman.
