C K Akunnor Makes Case For Local Players

Dreams FC Trainer, C K Akunnor believes the local league is now endowed with more quality players for Black Stars coach, Avram Grant to consider.

Grant is expected to release  his 23- man squad to face Mozambique in an AFCON 2107 Qualifier double header this week and according to the  former Black Stars skipper has backed calls from several football pundits for the inclusion of some local players because the league has become competitive.

The former Accra Hearts of Oak and Eleven Wise coach told the press after Dreams FC’s draw with Wa All Stars last Saturday at Dawu that Coach Avram Grant could scout better talents  to augment his squad.

He was convinced that the quality of the league put it in a better position to supply good players to the Black Stars.

Coach Grant and his assistant, Maxwell Konadu, together with the Ghana Football Association president,  Kwesi Nyantekyi, were all in the stands to monitor the performance of the players.

“I’m not forcing anybody to pick players. They should be allowed to take their own decisions freely.

“It’s in the hands of the manager and his assistant and we  have to support whatever comes out but there is quality in our league.  We’ve improved,  coaches are doing well and so there is the need for Grant to look at this and probably pick one or two players,” Akornor stressed.
