GFA Are Not Afraid Of Grant- Nii Doku

Emergency Committee member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Chairman of the Referees appointment Committee, Nii Komiete Doku, insists that the country’s football governing body is not afraid of Black Stars head coach, Avram Grant.

He was reacting to assertions by Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a former chairman of the GFA, that the FA appeared powerless to act to whip the Black Stars coach in line.

Dr . Nyaho-Tamakloe in an interview with Kumasi-based radio station, Nhyira FM, last Monday indicated that the GFA lacked the necessary confidence to act in the face of Grant’s persistent refusal to stay in Ghana to work.

He stated that he would have sacked Grant if he was the Minister of Youth and Sports.

But Nii Doku, who is also doubles as the Greater Accra Regional Football Association (GARFA) chairman, described the statement as inappropriate considering that the Black Stars were preparing for their AFCON qualifier against Mozambique at the time.

“How can an employer be afraid of his employee”, Nii Doku said in an interview, adding that, “I find his statements unacceptable particularly at a time when the Stars are preparing for an important qualifier and needs all the focus.

“This was a matter we have already addressed and the man is back on track so making such statements to me is inappropriate and he must withdraw the comments”

Nii Doku, however, stressed that the GFA had a contract with Coach Grant and the two parties were working to fulfil the terms of the deal.

He further noted that Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe was gaining noteriety for his attacks on the GFA, saying that if he had nothing beneficial to contribute to the development of the game then he must hold his peace.
