GPL WEEK 5 SUMMARY: Kotoko End Hoodoo, Hearts Marches On...

Another super quality weekend of Ghana football came to an end. Orgasmic football, delicious goals, twist and turns and job saving goals.

The Match Week Five began on Friday night. Kumasi Asante Kotoko whose worst league run for the first time in 42 years, ended their abysmal season with a 1-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium courtesy of Kwame Boateng’s 71st minute low strike.

Kotoko’s end of turbulent run in this year’s league was however marred by Eric Bekoe’s allegations that David Duncan insulted, match referee played 75 minutes for the Porcupine Warriors and becoming an urgent prophet, prophesying that Kotoko can’t stand stand might for Hearts of Oak.

The action continued on Saturday in Obuasi. Defending league champions Ashanti Gold drew their fourth game in succession piling more pressure on Bashir Hayford to get the team winning before they are overthrown for the crown.

A super afternoon,  super football was capped off by Bright Adjei, who scored an overhead kick in the 89th minute to level the game which was witnessed by Black Stars coach, Avram Grant and David Duncan of Asante Kotoko.

Due to Medeama’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, five league centres were entertained by the beautiful game.

Eight (8) goals were registered across the five (5) centers by seven (7) players, but overall eleven (11) goals were recorded on Match Week Five.

The satellites were at the Tema sports stadium when Inter Allies hosted unbeaten Hearts of Oak.

Spectators were served the meal of anxiety, tenacity, and the spirit of ‘never say die until the bones are rotten.’

When Inter Allies seem to have buried ‘sushie’, a Toyota engine out of the blue sent Kenichi Yatsuhashi flying high in the air. Frederick Boateng poked through Hearts’ backline to beat Suleiman Abdulai before thumped in a thunderbolt from 35-yards — satisfying his promise earlier in the week that he will score against the Phobians.

However, Mustapha Essuman — ‘one man thousand’ or ‘Lord of the green turf’ made the ‘impossible possible.’

The Rasta man, ironed Inter Allies, and his ball distribution became deadly. He developed the eye of an eagle, the pinching power of needle, and covered the grass with aplomb.

He strolled the pitch like a possessed python, and meandered a Ronaldinho-like pass to Isaac Mensah to pull one back. The architecture drove past Gockel Ahortor to feed Samuel Yeboah, who found the bulky Ibrahim Musah to draw parity on the 83th minute.

Tema sports stadium erupted and part of the net barricading the pitch went to sleep.

The sucker punch came 6 minutes later, when the industrious Owusu Bempah found found the feet of the the elephant weighted Ibrahim Musah on the left flank. He dummied Simon Martey, before unleashing the ‘Ebolaristic’ virus which sent Inter Allies into the grave.

And Heart left Tema with a come-back football loving fans in Ghana hardly see on our local scene.
