Gpl Preview: Champions Eye Befitting End In Takoradi

Newly-crowned winners of the 2015/16 season of the GPL, Wa All Stars FC, will be looking for a befitting end to their season when they head to Sekondi Takoradi for the final hurdle of the season.

The triumphant visitors arrive in the Western belt destined for coronation but could not have asked for a softer opponent than the relegated side.

A 3-0 spanking of Sekondi Hasaacas on opening day at the Wa Park set the eventual winners on their way to the ultimate trophy and, a dramatic win in Takoradi will complete the dream season for Enos Adepa Kwame and his charges.

Born and bread in Takoradi, the young tactician could not have asked for another coronation ground other than before his natives.

Pocket-size attacker, Maxwell Baako and, the striking duo of Emmanuel Ocran and Kelvin Andoh, return to their place of origin, only two years after heading north.

With 6 wins in the opening 11 fixtures between the sides though, Wa All Stars might just crush the 1977 Ghana Premier League champions in their backyard to complete their season.

The visitors arrive in the Western belt after a torturing 451 miles from Wa in search of their immortality on Sunday, September 18, 2016.

As the eleventh winner of the domestic championship since 1958, Wa All Stars have joined the list of glamorous clubs in the country to have laid hands on the ultimate trophy.

Motivated by the presence of club owner and the GPL trophy, an attacking trio of Paul Asare, Emmanuel Ocran and Richard Arthur might just prove a mouthful for the relegated host to contain.

The emergence of David Sandan Abagna means Atta Kofi Yeboah can enjoy his holidays in Dubai whiles Nikolas Mensah might just keep Moses Nyarko on the bench.

The Northern Blues have won 4 and drawn 3 of their 14 away ties this season, and a historic win in Takoradi will not only be a dream end to the season, but add to their record 51 points amassed.

The toothless Eric Kwabena will have to seek fortification from Latif Atta Blessing if he is to find the back of the net against a very stingy Wa All Stars defence that has shipped just 15 in 14 away ties – the division’s best.

Midfield general, Saddick Alhassn, kept his cool to convert the winning penalty for the Blues against Aduana. As a result of which the Upper West region as a whole refused to sleep. But the return to goal-scoring form of Paul Asare, looks set to torment the host.

When you spend 3,289 days in the top flight, the least you deserve is your domestic championship, not forgetting the 8,440 kilometres travelled in the 2015/16 GPL campaign alone.
