A Historic Day In Ghana"s Football As Nyantakyi Triumphs

Today,the 29th October 2016, will be a historic one in Ghana’s Football as President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been onto the FIFA Council by the General Assembly of the Confederations of African Football (CAF) in Cairo.


After being cleared by FIFA to contest in the race, Nyantakyi thus becomes the first ever Ghanaian to be elected to the highest board of world football governing body, FIFA.


 


In a closely-contested elections held today in Cairo to elect two new African representatives to FIFA Council, Nyantakyi polled  31 votes to go through alongside Guinean Almamy Kabele, who pulled  37 votes. Madagascar’s Ahmad missed out narrowly with 30 votes whiles Senegal’s Augustin Senghor pulled 9 votes.


Various congratulatory messages has been uttered to the President after his landmark victory and has surely made his mark as decorated football administrator Ghana has ever produced.


This means Nyantankyi will attend the FIFA Council meeting next month in Zurich as the former FIFA Executive Committee, was disbanded following reforms in FIFA.
