2016 FIFA U-17 WC : Injured Black Maidens Goalkeeper Replaced

Real Upper Ladies’ Berikisu Issahaku has been called in to replace Ghana U17 goalkeeper Martha Annan Koffie who has been ruled out of the FIFAU-17 Women World Cup due to injury.

Martha who was highly tipped to keep the post for Ghana in the World Cup opener against Japan, suffered an injury to her knee during the team’s training session on Monday.

Initial checks from the medical team indicates that the injury could take up to three weeks to heal, ruling the Bafana Ladies goalkeeper out of the tournament which will be staged from September 30 – October 21.

Berikisu Issahaku is set to join the team in Jordan on Wednesday afternoon where she will take part in preparations for the opening  group game.

Speaking on the injury, Management Committee Chairman, Mr. Augustine Asante says they are confident any of the remaining two goalkeepers will be ready to keep the post for Ghana if given the nod by coach Evans Adotey.

“Somehow it will affect us but we will keep faith in the goalkeepers who are available. From what I see in training, I believe who ever comes in will put up good performance for the team”, Mr. Asante told Ghanafa.org.

The injured goalkeeper is expected to return to Ghana by Friday.
