Revealed : Manchester United Key Players To Miss Zorya Europa Clash

Luke Shaw will sit out Manchester United’s Europa League tie against Zorya Luhansk through illness.

After being criticised by manager Jose Mourinho following the defeat to Watford, Shaw missed the wins over Northampton and Leicester with a groin injury.

He had been expected to return to the matchday squad for the visit of Zorya Luhansk but he was unable to take part in Wednesday’s training session due to ill health.

“He’s ill – temperature, fever, bad throat,” Mourinho told his pre-match press conference. “He arrived this morning and immediately the doctor sent him home because one player like this in the middle of the other ones can affect others so he went home.”

Captain Wayne Rooney could also miss Thursday’s game with Mourinho ‘not sure’ whether to include him.

Having been dropped for United’s win over Leicester last weekend, Rooney was tipped to feature in the Group A tie, but Mourinho admits he could miss out due to a back problem.

“He is selected. I didn’t decide yet if I start with him,” Mourinho explained. “He didn’t train yesterday, he did just a little bit of a session on Monday. He had a back problem, so today was the first time he did anything with the other players.

“I was completely convinced of playing him tomorrow. I’m not sure if I do that because with the situation you can create to him I think he really can’t afford to have a performance that is not really good and I am here to protect him and have to analyse the best thing for him,” Mourinho said.

“If he is not totally ready for it, I will discuss that with the medical staff.”
