Coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant has reiterated the point on how the Black Stars is bigger than any politician or football official, since it is the soul of the nation, but that, recent off-the-field distractions could hinder the progress of the team.
The stand-off between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Minister of Youth and Sports, has had a significantly negative effect on the Black Stars, particularly following the players’ funding their own airfare to honour the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday.
Grant expressed how the past weeks have been the most difficult in his coaching career.
He said; “I’m not a politician, so I will not do politics because I’m a football man, so one of the things I will plead is that everyone has to do his job, this is a common denominator all over the world.
“The Black Stars is more important than any politician, FA official and even the players themselves and, this is one thing we have to realize and, I’m sure the players will do their best.”
Grant also lauded his players for their sense of dedication to national duty by paying for their airfares, describing it as very patriotic but also called for support from all stakeholders.
