Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has revealed that, the management of the Ghana Black Stars were in the know, three weeks ago, about the financial constraints of the ministry.
The MoYS has reportedly slashed the whooping USD10,000 winning bonus package for the Black Stars, and has, as well, informed the committee of its inability to raise funds to fly the 20 out of 23 foreign-based players to honour the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Rwanda.
A section of the country has lambasted the ministry for failing to institute the right measures to facilitate the arrival of the players or, sell the idea of its proposal to coach Avram Grant, to invite local-based players to honour the game, as Ghana has already qualified for the championship in Gabon next year.
The one-time sports journalist, speaking after the launch of the World Hockey League, denied keeping information from both the GFA and the management committee of the Black Stars.
He said; “It was never late, I had the discussion with the Black Stars management committee three weeks ago.
“The GFA’s budget for the game came to me last Friday, so maybe they were late but surely not me.
“Do I look like being under pressure? Do I look like someone who’s under pressure? I am smiling towards you and offering you an interview, speaking confidently and you choose to ask me if I’m under pressure. I am not under pressure at all”, he added.
