Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Minister for Youth and Sports, has called on the Black Stars to ‘continue their kind gesture’ by accepting whatever amount they are given as winning bonus, should they win against Rwanda.
The Black Stars have been in the news for offering to purchase their own airfare to honour Ghana’s last qualifying game against Rwanda in Accra; a move that was championed by uniBank brand ambassador and deputy skipper for the Black Stars, Andre Dede Ayew.
And this, the tough-talking minister, has lauded the team for, and further demanded of them to show ‘more’ of their devotion and love for the nation once more by accepting the ‘meagre’ amount they might be given should they ease pass their Rwandan counterpart.
“We have a budget for this match which does not sum up to the amount of money that otherwise we would have paid to foreign based players.
So the same way they have sacrificed to purchase their own ticket to represent the nation for us, I believe they will be happy as well and sacrifice to accept whatever we (MoYS) give them.
“Should they accept, I will be so pleased and be the same person to say thank you to them and wish them well all the time”, he added.
